Messing with the vehicle of a Night Hunter

I can't think of any 'Italian Job' styled plot line where a troublemaker would come up to a truck loaded up with dead animals, tie a marker to the truck in a way that readily alerts the owner, and plan to come back. Occams Razor says he was trying to leave a message to you or someone else in a...

    Demo/blemished/closeout; where to get?

I'm looking to get a higher quality scope this year. I'm in no hurry so I plan to shop around and find one for a good deal. Right now I have a prostaff 5 3.5-14x40 with the BDC reticle on a Savage 11 (I think? it's the heavy barrel variant) in .308. I have a 300yd range semi-close to the...

Accuracy Mini 30 vs Mini 14

Never had a mini 14 but I do have a mini 30. Did quite a bit of reading on them. This is what I've gathered... Older mini 14s (pre 58X) had pencil barrels after the gas block. This earned them the accuracy issues. Newer mini 14s have better barrels and are more accurate. Mini 30 barrels have...

Deer rifle for 12-13 YO, 6.5 Grendel?

The way this thread is going; you'd think a 12 yr old needs to be able to run around the artic with 15lb 45/70 while they chew on a lead slug. Then people start threads discussing declining numbernof yumbe hunters. Try a .243 if you want longer range. If it hits too hard than accept a shorter...

    Looking at getting into Muzzleloader

I'd be interested in a smokeless variant if they are easier to maintain but it seems that most Muzzleloaders are black powder.

    Looking at getting into Muzzleloader

How does the constant cleaning work with barrel fouling? I thought that an unfouled barrel will "act up" during the first few shots. I can't imagine that shooting a couple of shots at 5am before I walk into the blind is a comforting idea.

    Looking at getting into Muzzleloader

I'm concerned about cleaning a traditional Flint/percussion. That's why I was looking at the inline. I've read enough about cleaning issues that an inline is what I think I want. I don't fully understand why these are so bad though. I thought black powder wasn't corrosive?...

    Looking at getting into Muzzleloader

Personally, I would prefer to have a scope for 150yd shooting. I'm sure it can be done without it. I'm also willing to tap out and accept help! I'd prefet to spend as little as possible (wouldn't we all?) But I know there is a certain amount you have to pay. I know I want a break barrel and...

    Looking at getting into Muzzleloader

I'm looking at getting into muzzloading. For predominant two reasons. The extended dear season and the ability to cast bullets (I think casting would be fun.) Hopefully someone will entertain my questions. What rifle is a good rifle to start with? My goal would be to be able to take deer at...

    My scope bottomed out

Get a hobby soldering iron. Put the tip in the head of the screw and let it sit for a bit till it gets hot. You can even heat it, spray with PB, let it cool, heat it, PB, cool, etc.. to loosen it

    Gas Block Mini 14

I've taken my gas block off a few times. It's not rocket surgery. Take it off slowly, use a lube, use heat if need be. When putting it back. Loosely get it in place. Lightly put each screw in and get the gap on either side of the gas block equal. Start doing 1/4 turns alternating on each...

    Rifle Break In

FWIW.... With 100 different opinions, I opted for... Scrub bore good. (Fire a round, clean) repeat 3x (Fire 2 rounds, clean) repeat 2x (Fire 3 rounds, clean) repeat 1x Shoot one grp. Seemed easy enough to remember. (1 shot 3x, 2 shot 2x, 3 shot 1x) I figured the rifle was like anything...

    Training Rifle or Precision Rifle?

FWIW... I bought a Ruger mini 30 to shoot cheap 7.62x39 for practice. Turns out cheap 7.62 doesn't shoot well. Maybe you'll have better luck in a bolt but I ended up hand loading to get decent accuracy. Now my mini (+my error) can shoot a 3"~ grp at 100 yds. I wanted to handload so I'm happy...

    Rifle Break In

How do you guys break in new rifles? I just got a new rifle and I plan to go to the range this weekend. I know some people will shoot X amount then clean, etc.

Would any of you gents, be interested in opening a small Gun Shop, FL

FWIW... I won't usually buy guns if they are new. It's gotta be a stupid deal for me to bite. But I know I'm not exactly the standard. However, their is an RV place near us that sells used RVs. It works like this; the RV is brought to the lot by the owner. The dealer guys clean them up and...

    Intermediate cartridge compact bolt actions

I'm surprised to hear a silenced .223 as the go to for him. I would assume that this is where a larger slower (like .300 blackout?) Would shine. I thought that you're supposed to use slower rounds with a silencer, although I have no experience to support that. I have heard game control persons...

    Intermediate cartridge compact bolt actions

With the 500 yard shooting. The 7.62x39 is barely supersonic and has a 10ft drop. 300 blackout will have the same issues, as well as the 6.5 (I think on the 6.5). I have the 7.62x39 in my mini 30. I wouldn't shoot at those ranges. At 200? That's about as far as I'd shoot with my mini. Now a...

Whats The Advantage of a Boat Tail Projectile?

I don't remember learning anything about supersonic waves negating drag effects. My understanding is in supersonic flight the region "inside" the supersonic region has drastic affects on fluid characteristics but that it was absolutely still a fluid. Thus you would still have drag effects...

    O/U shotguns; I don't get it?

My dad has an O/U... I was just never interested in shooting it. Maybe something I should do next time I need a day off. I appreciate all the responses. I also appreciate the lackthere of down talking from everyone. Posting that I was concerned it would turn into a flame war with no answer.
