    AO M1 Carbine experience

Well, sorry to disappoint, thought it'd be a fun tale. By the way, we don't drink and shoot, or drive, or anything else but sit on the porch and have a beer while cleaning. Didn't mean to give the impression otherwise. And we clean up our targets, and other peoples' too. Sometimes whole...

    AO M1 Carbine experience

Bought this little guy last winter as a tax return prezzie to myself. Read all the reviews. Watched all the vids, good and bad. Finally got to take it on a road trip and validate. I am here to tell you, the reviews are all correct, both good and bad. At this point I finally have a run of...

    Sentimental Guns

1968 Ithaca Model 49 my Dad gave me on my 12th birthday. 1949 Win 94 in .32WS from my Dad. 1950 Rem 721 in 30.06 from Farm Girl's Dad. Shoot them every range day. I couldn't sell 'em if I had to.

    A Note RE: Rifle Recoil...

TB, I did just that. Really makes a difference. And what really tames it is using 125 grain ammo. I thoroughly enjoy shooting the old 721 now.

    Win 94 .32WS question

Thanks all. Exactly what I was looking for. The LeveRevolutions shoot fine, never a question of that, it was poking them in a tube one after another that didn't feel right and that was thoroughly explained. Appreciate it.

    Win 94 .32WS question

Thank you Sir, appreciate it. That's what I reckoned, but I like to make sure. I couldn't imagine they could make it for tubular mags if there was a built in hazard, but it just didn't pass the smell test when I first used it. Still feels weird poking them in the loading gate one after another.

    Win 94 .32WS question

Have a 1949 Win 94 carbine in .32WS. It was my Dad's truck gun in the 50's, a blast to shoot, and a real crowd pleaser at the range when I take it out. Not a lot of .32WS ammo running around even before the current craziness. My normal MO was to visit every ammo stand at the gun show and buy...

Does anybody here have any firearms they've never shot?

Actually been thinking about shooting this one lately JD. Family heirloom, so I'm not gonna sell it. Might as well enjoy it.

Does anybody here have any firearms they've never shot?

Yes, my Win 66 Centennial. Actually never been shot. My Aunt bought it in 1966 as an investment. She never shot it. Passed it to me, and despite all the shooting I have done, I can't bring myself to shoot it.

Recommended reading for someone interested in old school gun culture?

Robert Ruark has already been mentioned, but UHURU has some great classic African hunting passages, against the backdrop of a de-colonizing Kenya.

    KAHR Auto Ordnance M1 carbine

Just bought an AO carbine last week myself, so thanks for the update NIGHTLORD. AAFEES sells guns on line and you can have them delivered to the Army or Air Force Exchange of your choice. You have to keep hawking the site because it changes immediately and the good stuff doesn't last long...

    What did smaller soldiers do?

Heh, talked to a guy who went to Navy boot camp in the early 60's. He told me at uniform issue they ran out of dungaree trousers with 28" waists, because that's what most everybody had.

What is the last gun that you bought?

Just got an Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine.

    What did smaller soldiers do?

Smaller frames (nourished on Depression era diets), enlistments for the duration, longer combat deployments, no regular communications back home, 9+ pound battle rifles and even heavier suppression weapons (BAR). A tougher breed went before us. Thank God.

Rifles that kick like a mule, what you got and what's your work arounds

I have the exact same rifle Bruce, a family heirloom. Recently discovered some 125 grain ammo for it and makes all the difference in the world over the 150s and 165s I had used before. Tames it right down. Try it, you might enjoy shooting it again.

    Most Iconic 22LR Rifles?

Speaking strictly for myself, my Ithaca model 49 single shot my dad got me at Sears for my 12th birthday is my iconic .22. It also shot shorts and longs. Still shoots well and looks good.

Let's see the .22 rifles that make you smile

My Ithaca model 49 single shot, first gun ever at age 12. And my little 10/22. Fun on a stick.

    Heavy Recoil

Archie is exactly right, lighten up the bullet loads. My Rem 721 in 30.06. I got a new stock (a Rem 700 stock worked great BTW, just a little bit of Dremel work around the safety). Its a heavy recoil with 165+ grain bullets. Shot it last week for the first time with 125 grain bullets and it...

    Range Day

Yep, my Dad's model 94 (.32 WS) he left me and my first gun, an Ithaca model 49 single shot .22 my Dad gave me in 1968. Fun on a stick!

    Range Day

Beautiful range day in the mountains of Virginia, about a stone's throw from WV. Got to run the front end of the Tacoma a bit on the way up, have fun on the 100 yd range, and then a session on the newly finished 500 yd range. We shot 9mm, .45, .22, .22WM, 5.56, .243, .32WS, .308, and 30.06...
