    Uberti 1860 Wiggly Arbor

replace it if you can, do NOT try to remove the pin. I had an original do this once, the gunsmith put some extra strength locktite on it and let it run in. , clean with alcohol first. let it drip in. the ppt the gun together and it will set in the correct place. you'll never...

Barrel wedge - that nub is supposed to snap up?

rile a little off the wedge on the front, do NOT file the gun. you'll see it will go all the way to the spring catch on the frame. The wedge is easliy replaceable if you go too much, but slow is the work here.

    Lemat adjusting?

I love this discussion Mike. I think you're wrong, or just had the wrong guns come your way. I've been gunsmithing Colts for 40 years and think I've seen everything. I have a 61 Navy original on my bench right now, parts coming. The timing of a Colt is a tough job, and there is no such...

    nitrated paper for cartridges?

being a Sharps collector and shooter I used to make the paper Sharps ctg. with nitrated paper. soaked the paper in potassium nitrite let it dry and used it. but. Sharps in 1862 stopped using the nitrated paper, they found it stuck in the chamber, and really did nothing. regular bank note...

Using glue to hold barrels in place?

I have been working on muzzle loaders for decades, as an antique gunsmith, etc. Never would I recommend glue for barrels. front sight maybe, but heat will be a problem with any epoxy based glue. black powder while low pressure can explode at funny times.. The loss of an eye or finger is...

    Lemat adjusting?

all good ideas I'm sure, but I don't dry fire any of my guns. I play with them of course, but not pulling the trigger. Too much damage could, as you said, can happen. I'm thinking about trimming the spring a little more, but I go to the mirror and slap myself while saying Leave it Alone...

    Lemat adjusting?

Ok spring work worked. I ordered a new mainspring from Taylor. I say Taylor because DGW has them too but opted for the original Mgr. spring. I could not cock the LeMat one handed. so I took the new spring and smoothed the sides 'slightly' on the flat sander. then I rounded the nose end...

    Lemat adjusting?

Probably going to leave well enough alone... after gunsmithing Colt SAA's for decades, tuning, bluing, re springing, etc. I thought maybe, the LeMat may have had some 'tricks' too. but...While I could work on the spring, even make a new one...,yup, I can do that, it's not worth it...
