Can't tell you how much I value and appreciate your comprehensive response, LiveLife. Many good takeaways for me--too many to bore you with a complete diatribe!
I note that the website load data seems more comprehensive and up to date than the printed data (Hodgdon's did not show the Speer...
Would appreciate a reality check on my workup for these 9 mm test loads:
Data:
Hodgdon 9mm 115g LRN IMR Target COL 1.100 Start 4.0 Max 4.5
Lee 9 mm 115g XTP IMR Target COL 1.125 Start 4.4 Max 4.9
My working COL is 1.125 and want to work up loads using two different bullets (both of which...
LiveLife you are always so quick to reply, thanks. Hoping I didn’t misinterpret your response, sounds like you’re implying it would be safe to work the charge up beyond 3.5 gr.? I should note I am actually using a RMR FMJ projectile.
I’ve not found many recipes for .380 using Universal powder and am somewhat concerned with the wide disparity between data from Speer vs Hodgdon.
Speer. Start 3.6 max 4.1 COL .970 bullet 95 gr tmj-rn
Hodgdon start 3.1. max 3.5 COL .970 bullet 95 gr fmj-rn
I am reluctant to charge higher than...
Anyone have a good method for marking cases for easy identification and inspection of test loads?
Does marking the head with a colored sharpie pose any risk of damage to the firearm?
I shoot at an indoor range and it’s not always easy to retrieve my test loads to inspect the cases after firing.
My thanks to all of your for responding and sharing your knowledge. This is a great forum for learning and solving problems. Have only been a shooting enthusiast for 2 years and reloading only about six months. Will never have the firearm sophistication of most of you, but I really enjoy the...
Has anyone seen cases with marks like the pictures below? I picked these up at the range—they’re not from any of my firearms. The case heads and primers don’t seem to be abnormal so I am left wondering why the odd shooting pattern.
thanks for your kind thoughts. We survived the rare February weather with no damage or other mishaps! (Some we’re not so lucky.)
appreciate your comment and advice.
I am fairly new to the word of reloading, but have read and studied a ton and still feel like a total dummy. Gaining the knowledge needed is a daunting task and I am again seeking advice and input from you who are more experienced. This forum is absolutely awesome!
I've been loading 9mm using...
Made my first 380 auto reloads for my daughter’s S&W EZ Shield and want more knowledgeable hand loaders’ opinions on whether primers are flattened and if so, why.
load data (Lee 2nd Ed., Hodgdon online)
W231; 2.9 gr start; COL .970; Blazer cases; RMR 95 grain FMJ; Fed100 primers
Made and...
I'm new enough to this game that I've only used one powder so far (W231) and have read everywhere not to mix powders. I haven't actually cleaned my powder tube since before I put it into use. Hoping someone can confirm that a few flakes of W231 clinging to the tube won't contaminate and cause...
