Good advice for all those new kitchen knives

Tis indeed a Russell. If I see a black knife at the thrifty store for under $5, I grab it. That includes dexters and ole hickories.

Good advice for all those new kitchen knives

I’m the knife guy in my fam. The quick 5 I tell initiates... CUTTING SURFACE: Don’t let your knife touch anything but plastic, wood or food. Not your dinner plate, serving platter, bottom of the sink. One drag across a ceramic plate and your blade is instantly dull. SHARPENING SCHEDULE...

    Halo around my reticle? (FFP)

I have a theory. The fastidious german engineers at steiner designed this otherwise excellent 4-12 scope but the marketing dept said that 3-12 was all the rage with the competition. The engineers complained that mein private parts would show at 3x but marketing won out the argument, und ze...

    Halo around my reticle? (FFP)

Behold your own forum post at varying eye reliefs. Note this is very low light. Reversies caught almost nothing but reflection. Near to far. All would be within acceptable eye relief range if not for internals. All have the black ring in the picture. P.S. Mahalo. Oahu born and raised...

    Halo around my reticle? (FFP)

Is this only on your FFP’s at min mag? I’ve not any extras to compare

    Halo around my reticle? (FFP)

Yeah, the halo goes away at 4x giving way to that inky black ring. At about 4.25 the black ring goes away and leaves full FOV. Not unusable by any means, but weird. Very weird.

    Halo around my reticle? (FFP)

Hey guys, this might be normal as this is my first FFP scope, but I noticed an interesting phenomenon on my new-to-me Steiner VZF 3-12x56. On lower levels of zoom, it seems I can see daylight around the outside of my reticle. Anyone else experienced a similar effect? It’s like it zoomed out so...

Gutting / Gralloching / Whatever you call it

Okay, so back to the newbie questions. I started this thread with "huh, I'm surprised he's spilling poo inside the carcass on purpose". But I guess the hidden question that I didn't ask was, how big of a deal is this? The subject of cleaning a gut shot deer seems to be very lightly tread upon...

Gutting / Gralloching / Whatever you call it

You know this thread turned out pretty good considering it started with “is venting stomach farts in my face a good idea…” Having finally read/watched everything here, I am going to have to do my own butchery next year. The processor did fine. All my stuff was tagged with my customer id...

    Lee classic 12 ga loader

Hey Clone, appreciate the measurements. Looks like mine is indeed a 16ga. Shame too, I was keen to spend the holiday learning how to do it the “hard way”.

    Lee classic 12 ga loader

I swear someone just shipped me a 16 ga kit in a 12 ga box, but I am brand new to loading so I’ll lay the facts out. All of the tools that go inside the shell measure 1/2” nominal OD. This seems appropriate to the 16ga .662 bore. With 12 ga being .810 nominal, I’d expect the tools to be more...

Gutting / Gralloching / Whatever you call it

Appreciate all the responses. Will have to look at a butt out and zipties are great suggestion. I agree splitting the pelvis in the field, in the dark, in the rain, covered in blood was a PITA. Was like a scene from Dexter... Regarding the gutless method, how do you access any meat inside the...

Gutting / Gralloching / Whatever you call it

Thoughts on pulling the bootyhole in through the abdomen and spilling stuff? Very scientific terms, I know.

Gutting / Gralloching / Whatever you call it

I took my first whitetail this year. After watching about 10 gutting vids I was still woefully unprepared, but I muddled through it slowly and intuitively without spilling any dookie on the meat. I used the “rear gateway” method, which I believe is how Rinella describes it. Worked well, breaking...

What is the last gun that you bought?

Always wanted one of those marlin camp guns. Color me jelly. As for my luck, I stumbled upon this in the trade-in case today after holding out for the decocker version of the CZ-75 Compact for over a year now. I didn’t really even know that the Sig existed in this exact configuration, but I...

    MidwayUSA

That type of notification system might work if they sent out validated links that could only be used once, good for qty x. Links expire after a day and then new links must then be sent to the next line. Rise and repeat until the wait list is empty. Then the product becomes available to the...

What is the last gun that you bought?

You know, I thought so too but I’ve seen contradicting information on various forums. I think it would beyond silly to build a specialized bird gun that u can’t fit thru a doorway and not have a built in full or extra full choke on it.

    Yessir, choke tbd.

What is the last gun that you bought?

Not entirely sure I should have but... the closest thing I could find to a family members’ coveted musket. Almost exactly twice as long as a 10/22 TD with a 16” barrel.
