Hey guys, this might be normal as this is my first FFP scope, but I noticed an interesting phenomenon on my new-to-me Steiner VZF 3-12x56. On lower levels of zoom, it seems I can see daylight around the outside of my reticle. Anyone else experienced a similar effect? It’s like it zoomed out so far you can see the innards.

Weird, my T5Xi 5-25x56 doesn't do that.

That's trippy I've never seen that before..... It's almost like looking through the scope backwards.

Actually I was just playing with a couple of my Scopes and if there's enough backlight I can get them to kind of do that, not nearly as bad tho and it takes quite a bit of light

Yeah, the halo goes away at 4x giving way to that inky black ring. At about 4.25 the black ring goes away and leaves full FOV. Not unusable by any means, but weird. Very weird.

Is this only on your FFP’s at min mag? I’ve not any extras to compare

nope I can make my sfps do it too, its more about the backlight illuminating the innards than what focal plane its on I think........can we get pictures of your whole scope, and maybe one from the front end looking back? might be able to see something off that way.

Behold your own forum post at varying eye reliefs. Note this is very low light. Reversies caught almost nothing but reflection.

Near to far. All would be within acceptable eye relief range if not for internals. All have the black ring in the picture.

Very interesting!!!..never seen that before, or at least not to that degree, somewhat happens when your inside of optimum.....but..yeah dont think thats right lol.

Aloha! always cool to know another person whos lived here!

I have a theory. The fastidious german engineers at steiner designed this otherwise excellent 4-12 scope but the marketing dept said that 3-12 was all the rage with the competition. The engineers complained that mein private parts would show at 3x but marketing won out the argument, und ze private parts now show as a result.

Or maybe something is not right. I’ll mull it over, maybe call Steiner if it starts making me crazy.
