It's going back (darn it)
Talked to a reasonable S&W rep today and he is sending me a return label so they can look at the firing pin protrusion. He said I shouldn't need to pick and choose any commercial ammo, it all should work. Wow, that makes sense!
I asked about the pin and he thought...
Strain screw and lanyard
Thanks to both Wolfeye and rcmodel for the responses. I did check the strain screw and it is all the way in. In fact that's how I discovered the small pin in the butt of the frame. I was hoping it was something as simple as the strain screw, but no I'm not that lucky...
Flitz metal polish and another question or two.
I use a small amount of Flitz metal cleaner/polish. It is a non abrasive product that comes in a liquid or paste (like tooth paste). It gets almost all the residue off. Enough that you have to look hard to see the remaining.
I have used it on...
Just got one last weekend
I am very impressed with the gun. Both the DA and SA trigger action make me look like a better shooter than I am. I took a Kimber Raptor Stainless to the range with me. It was my previous favorite. The Sig just blew it away. Every time I picked up the Kimber, I...
.40 snappy .45 heavy push
I think EHL has it right. The .40 S & W is a snappy higher speed recoil while the .45 is a good hard push. Both are inside the envelope of control, no problem. The one exception in my experience is the Baby Eagle Compact in .40. It is a well engineered firearm that...
Got one on a "close out"
I bought one of the Taurus 2" .44 Mag Trackers at a gun show several weeks ago in Orlando, FL. The dealer had them marked at $379 show special! (His exclamation). He had a stack of about six or eight. I asked if he'd take $350 cash, got a permit, won't have to talk to...
My apologies to the group. I only wished to see actual facts and am the victim of an unfortunate accident with this gun (KB fired out of battery).
My passion sometimes gets the better of me as I recount having a gun explode in my hand and limit my ability to enjoy shooting for quite some...
CarbineKid
Now I understand...
"I just picked up my SW9VE Allied Forces. The gun is great. The fit and finish are perfect and the flashlight is top notch. I can't beleive this gun cost me under $300.00.
Now I just cleaned up the gun and it was DIRTY. The patches turned black when I wiped...
I own several Kimbers. The magazine in the Pro Tacs felt very light to me and in one case failed to push up the slide stop.
I did a no-no and removed the spring and stretched it out. (Wailing heard). Since then even though the spring feels light it functions in all my Kimbers.
It is a...
CarbineKid,
I can't find any contemporary information to substantiate your claim the Sigma is a best seller. Just because S&W is "dumping" them over seas doesn't qualify as a best seller.
The M&P line is Smith's answer to the Smegma (sp?) M&P has improved trigger and much safer takedown...
Well TexasShooter,
Maybe I was a bit (just) harsh. I can pull a revolver (last time I checked), but why torture myself when a much decent pull can be had for only slightly more $.
The gun (both calibers) doesn't handle recoil well. I know I am setting my self up for a flame, but I...
My point was that in chambering a round from the magazine, rather than a round in the chamber and letting the slide forward, the rim of the cartridge slips under the extractor, flexing less and keeping forces off the face of the extractor.
I tend to be a little anal about my guns (especially...
only if you don't like the gun
Never on an empty chamber or one with a round already in the chamber unless you hate your extractor. Ease it closed on an empty and always make sure any round put in the chamber is stripped off the mag and the rim of the round slides under the extractor.

My .02
I live in Florida. If I found myself in this situation and I was confident I could double tap this scum i would not hesitate a microsecond.
The Castle Doctrine in Florida would undeniably protect my actions: "I was in a place I had a right to be and I felt threatened for my life when...
Are you kidding?
My dad and I each bought one of the the S&W's 9 and 40 VE series. They a nothing but a piece of junk being blown out at gun shows in my area for under $300. I so want to walk up to the obvious first time purchaser considering the gun and tel him to put it down and buy anything...
Bill Adair
It is a fairly common misconception that the 5.56 chamber and the .223 SAAMI chamber are the same. 5.56 NATO is slightly larger in the leade area and will not and should not be shot in a precision chamber.223. If a rifle is stamped .223 one should NEVER use 5.56 ammo. It is loaded to...
