The title says it all. I'm looking for a .45 ACP carry gun, and the Glock appears to have a lot to offer.

Is there anything that I should know about this model before picking one up?

Yes, You should know you will love it and never be without it.

It is accurate and dependable. It carries nicely and will make a big hole if you ever have to use in for defense.

I don't think there is a downside to it.

Good Luck!

Go rent one & feed it a few 100 rounds & see how you 2 get along. IF you like the way it shoots & it meets your permformance expectations, get it ;)

Hell I don't even like Glocks all that much but even I have owned a Glock 30. Best of the line IMO and uglier then sin......as all Glocks are and should be forever more. :D :neener:

Really though, it is a fine handgun. I enjoyed mine immensely only reason I sold mine was I just couldn't warm up to Glocks "safe-action" system and it wasn't a SIG. :D

No there isn't. IMO, it's the best non-1911 .45 ACP pistol out there.

Ummm yeah about that........Maybe you didn't get the memo about the SIG P220.....I'll get that faxed right over to you. :D

Not really. If it fits your hand and lights your flame buy it. I know several happy owners. There is some concern about the throating of Glock barrels, but if you're going to use factory ammo or even sane reloads, you'll be fine.

Shoot it first. I had to carry the G30 for work years ago, I hated it. It was pretty reliable, but it felt horrible in my hands and like I was carrying an engine block on my hip. It wasnt the weight or the size, I think it was the shape. I now carry an HK USP which is more comfortable for me to carry even though it is bigger and heavier.

Bottom line I was very happy to get rid of it, but obviously many love it, just do yourself a favor and shoot it first...if you like it get it because there isnt much out there in that price range that is as reliable...if you are willing to shell out more cash your options open up, but if the Glock works for you, why pay more?

Glock makes great guns. I love glocks but if you haven't fired a 1911 you should try one. You will be completely satisfied with your Glock 30, reliable, accurate and practically indestructible, easy to clean and plenty of aftermarket parts and accessories. By the time I'm done I'll have every 3rd Generation Glock except for the 18 and the 7.

In addition to being a BIG Glock fan I'm also a pureist. I like 1911's in .45, Kimber, Springfield S&W, Colt, Les Baer & Ed Brown, I also like HK & Sig in .40, S&W/Ruger revolvers in .38, .357Mag, .44Mag & 460.

Love my Glock 30

If the gun fits your hand, you will love it. I have both the Glock 30 and Glock 21. The 21 sits by my bed and the 30 sits on my hip. I also love the fact that the mags are interchangeable and I have the A&G extenders on the mags for my 30 and it shoots like a charm.

I agree with the others, shoot it and if you like it, you will end up loving it.

I also have the XD 45 compact and it is a nice gun as well. I like the grip on the Glocks better, as well as the ease of takedown and the availability of parts, but the XD is a good gun as well. I still carry my Glock everyday.

Good luck.

Its a fine handgun
I've had one for almost 10 years and I've had no problems at all

Its a great shooter and utterly reliable.

I wouldn't hesitate to grab a G-30 if the SHTF

I see no reason NOT to buy a Glock 30. It'll surely make a handy carry gun. For a SHTF situation, I'd opt for a 9mm Glock, simply because I can buy 33 round mags for it, and use it as a sidearm along with my AK47. I dunno if you can buy super hi-cap mags for the .45 ACP Glocks.

As long as you are comfortable not having a manual safety, then no.

Glocks are great, great guns.

Just by reading this thread... Now I want one!

And i think we allll love pics :D

Just to extinguish a rumor, I hear that Glocks were a total pain-in-the-arse to disassemble and clean/oil... and that XD's are alot better in that way.
Any input on that?

There isn't an easier gun to take down than a Glock
