I bought a RCBS JR3 used at a gun show for ~$30 with a RCBS hand primer and they have never let me down. The JR3 is a tank and I just put a roller handle on it from https://inlinefabrication.com/collections/rcbs/products/ergonomic-style-roller-handle-for-the-rockchucker-supreme-reloading-press...
I just got 200 cases of 45 Colt and the Starline bags had date stamps on them that were less than a week old. I'd have to look up the vendor but the price was cheaper when including shipping, than it was directly from Starline.
I haven't used the Ginex but read a lot of posts about those who did who said they all went bang and no problems with accuracy. I'm kicking myself for not buying 5K LPP when they were on AmmoSeek for $0.08 each. I have 1,500 or so Federals in my stash but enjoy shooting my new New Vaquero in .45...
I had my scale weights jump a grain on me and loaded almost 100 rounds 9mm before I noticed. They were under weight so I tried a few at the range and since they went bang and got all the way down range, I just shot them all. I had a Midway puller and managed to brake it not having used it in a...
I've been handloading since 1992, use mostly W231 in all the same cartridges you mentioned. I also have Clays, Unique, VV N350, AA#5 & 7 that I play around with but most of the 45 ACP was with 231.
Heck after loading 45 Colts for the last few months, going back to 9mm seems tiny. I offered to load some .380 for my bro but he just bought ammo in bulk and didn't feel it was worth his time. Me, I enjoy reloading as a hobby.
But-but-but... all my semi autos have serrations on the front of the trigger guard. (None of my revolvers do.) What are they for if not your (weak hand) index finger?
I found a stash of what appears to be 200 gr 45 JHP Speer (#4477) Ashtrays. I believe I bought them for loading 45 Auto Rim back in the 90s. I want to try a few loads for my 45 Colt New Vaquero. I've found published data for Unique: start 8.8 gr., 1.555" @ 940 fps in the Speer #12 manual and...
I stand corrected. I thought about getting the basic Lee Turret for my (Lee dies) 45 Auto Rim and Colt loading, $115 at Midway is chump change when you consider the current price of ammo.
+1 on using carbide dies. I was going to mention it in my initial post but got distracted.
For the OP, While I didn't read all the other posts, I've been reloading since the early 90's, have both progressive (Dillon SDB) and single stage (RCBS JR3) presses. Since you aren't shooting any semi-autos, you don't need a progressive and a single stage is OK, but I think you will be happier...
I've got a 686 as well in 6" and it is my favorite wheel gun. I believe it is my most accurate gun and I like to put 1" florescent orange dot stickers on a chunk of cardboard and obliterate them with 3-4 shots each. I bought some auto rim cases, each one of those rounds is measured for accuracy...
I'm just getting back into reloading after too many years of zero range time. Back in the day, I used to weigh 10-20 bullets together, to get an average weight of the lot, then weigh each bullet quickly on my digital scale. I'd divide them up into those right on +/- a tad, those over by a...
I've been lurking for a while now reading some hand-loading posts in preparation of firing up a new hand-loading bench. Back in 1990 my ex and I were almost done building a house in a fairly isolated area when the property got burglarized. We got a white German Shepherd dog (Byla) and I picked...
