Post Pics of Your Home Defense Gun(s)

My trio: a Baer TRS, an Ithaca M37 w/interuptor, and my "CAR-94" (Cowboy Assault Rifle,) a Winchester Trapper in .45 Colt with a Giles single point sling and Williams peep sight w/o apperture (which makes for a nifty mini-ghost ring sight.) The TRS gets Federal 200 gr. EFJM, the Ithaca gets...

When did you become interested in guns?

I was raised around guns, though only shotguns, and I can't remember a time when I wasn't interested in guns. My father taught me the basics of marksmanship with a Daisy pump BB rifle which I received for Christmas when I was 6 1/2, and then went on from there to teach me shotgun basics and...

Favorite gun quotes NOT from movies

armedandsafe wrote: Good, but it should have been "He's a WAS, and You are a rookie. Hope you make it as long as he did." My favorite lines: "You can't miss fast enough to win a gunfight." "Speed is fine; accuracy is final."

    OUCH!!!

Been there, done that, only with a .30-06, and my cut was actually in my right eyebrow.

To Shoot With or Without The Wedding Ring

I'm a right hander, so the wedding ring doesn't cause that much problem, but I also wear a signet ring on the same finger of the right hand. I've debated this same issue in my mind many times, and it keeps coming up the same; practice the way you live. Shoot with the ring on. What would your...

    "Moon" Craters....

Unpredictable bounceback and splatter are indeed quite common from cratered steel targets. I've been hit with many a bullet fragment at IPSC and steel challenge matches. In fact, I'm carrying a shard of 9mm jacket fragment in my left thigh....I was standing five yards behind and 25 yards to the...

    Gun related names???

My grandpa on my dad's side used to call me "Buckshot" and "Ramrod." One of the members here has a daughter named Sig, a son named Colt, and a grandson named Remington.

Whats that thing they hold behind you at competitions?

An additional reason the timer is held close to the shooter is to make sure it picks up the sounds of all shots fired; however, the mics in those timers are pretty sensitive, and I've seen people be given reshoots on a stage because the timer picked up shots from a different stage. FWIW, when...

    Denied Renewal of My CWP

One of the times I was stopped for speeding was in Salley, SC, by a sheriff's deputy. I had a bit of a chat with him, and he informed me that most LEO's will stop speeders only if they're exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 mph on the open highway, or more than 4 mph in urban settings...

    Denied Renewal of My CWP

Hoo boy....where to start? I picked up an application for a permit on the first day they became available after the shall issue law went into effect. It took me about 3 or 4 days to get everything else together, and then I mailed it in. On the 90th day after the application was mailed, I...

    Gun shy about carrying concealed

In 10 years of nearly daily carry of a c'n'l GM, I've only twice had the safety wipe off unintentionally. This didn't bother me because I observe the 4 rules, and Rule 3 (finger off trigger until ready to shoot) came in handy here. In short, the safety of ANYTHING lies between the ears of the...

Help me understand: What's a good trigger like?

Smooth, crisp, consistent. Lightness dependent upon type: pure target= lightest; hunting/defensive= heavier; long guns generally lighter than handguns. .5#= GREAT target rifle (set trigger); don't go there in a handgun 2.5#= great target pistol; decent target rifle, great hunting/defensive...

    Article on the G11

IIRC, Remington also had a short-lived caseless .22 round back in the early to mid sixties. I was under the impression (possibly mistaken) that the G11 did indeed have too many cook-offs to be considered as a viable weapon.

Has anyone ever shot down a tree?

I've shot down a couple on my own land, but the best I ever saw was a friend who used a Blackhawk in .41 Magnum to set off dynamite taped to a 10" pine. He had 4 sticks, one on each side, and it took about 5 shots to hit the one on front, but when he did, HOOO WEEE! (It was on his land.)

    Guns that suprised you.

I was once given a Sears Model 200 12 ga. pump (Winchester 1300) that had been sawed off at both ends (but it is legal-I've triple checked!) It has turned out to be a surprisingly accurate & fun gun to shoot, even with 2 3/4" magnum 00 buck.

    This is just nuts.

Hmmm.....appears to me this is more "nutless" than "nuts"....
