Seeking range and CHL course in triangle, NC

Sorry for such a general question, but I'm trying to get back into shooting again after an almost two-year-logn hiatus (due to starting grad school). Can anyone recommend a Concealed Handgun License course provider in the triangle (Raliegh, Cary, Durham, RTP, etc) area of North Carolina...

It worked for me, but firefox had to open it using a helper application. I converted it to jpeg, so here we go:

    9mm vs. .22Magnum in a rifle...

You know, this would be a good role for one of those .44 magnum carbines which Ruger made for a while (they started making them again, I think, with a slightly different design?) Of course, .44 isn't near as cheap as .223, 9mm, or .22rimfire, but if that carbine has any role, it's this one!

    9mm vs. .22Magnum in a rifle...

I thought he said "varmints" with low cost ammo -- to me, this means shooting small mammals at relatively long distances .. maybe 50 -300 yards. For such a purpose, the low velocity and low sectional density of 9mm is just silly. A fast rimfire or .223 seems much better than 9mm if this is...

    9mm vs. .22Magnum in a rifle...

Hmm.. interesting question. What size varmints? chipmunks, rats, coons, coyotes?? Unless you're shooting short-range (<30-50 yards?), why ever choose a 9mm for varmints? I don't really see the appeal of a 9mm truck rifle, as opposed to .30-30, .308, or .223. I've always thought .22...

Is the new Harry Potter book pro-gun?

don't be so quick They may be pro-destroying-evil and hence pro-self-defence, but isn't every adventure story this way by necessity??? I think it's an enormous stretch to call them pro gun. In one of the earlier books, there was a distinct note that the Muggles loved to use these loathsome...

I guess I messed up my first car jacking

Fed168, Thanks for your input. I gather you have more information than the rest of us regarding such incidents, and I find it rather suspicious that the original poster hasn't responded yet. I know nothing about this case at all, and I don't mean to comment on its validity or lack...

4 inch vs. 5 inch barrel in 1911?

For the sake of a free press, I should note that my commander is in 9x19, so the full package with a 5" barrel seemed too big for the diminutive cartridge; however, the 4" commander length made the gun comparable in overall size to (and thinner than!) all the Wonder-9's out there. I've heard...

4 inch vs. 5 inch barrel in 1911?

Longer sight radius is nice, but I like the overall size of the 4" commander more than a full size. It really depends on your purpose... for hunting, target shooting, or competition, 5" is likely the way to go -- more options, longer sight radius, perhaps marginally better velocities. For...

Durham County Wildlife Club -- Durham, NC: opinions?

I moved to the Durham, NC area last fall and hadn't had a chance to join a gun club until recently (when my first year of grad school at Duke ended). Consequently, I haven't shot more than a rubberband since last August. :what: :( Someone reccommeded DCWC as a good, inexpensive club...

Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill... NC in it's entirety

Sounds good! I moved to NC from WI last fall (for grad school at Duke), and I'm still looking for a place to shoot and people to shoot with. What sorts of dates were you thinking of? next month? next 3 months? School keep me very busy until May 1, and I'm away, getting married in WI...

    CO, NC reciprocity?

Both CO and NC got new CCW laws recently -- notably North Carolina now allows reciprocity, but the list is currently only these states: Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Idaho, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Wyoming...
