    Gun for Newborn Son

Local FFL holder already has his grandson a Ruger 10/22 with his name ingraved on it. He also has a bolt action .410 waiting for him. I think his grandson is only two years old.

I'll say Hornady XTP/JHP either in 180gr or 158gr. Which ever your rifle likes the best.

    Deer:processor or kitchen counter?

Mostly I take mine over to a buddy's Dad place. His old garage is now refured to as the buther shop. They had in the past buthered cows and hogs. He has a stainless bandsaw, large meat grinder and even a motorized tenderizer. The only thing he doesn't have is a walk in cooler. I did how...

Is just me, or is 20ga ammo not any cheaper than 12ga?

I've always bought 12ga and 20ga shells at the same price. This year was the first time I noticed 20ga was more, be it a small margin, but more then a similar case of 12ga.

Slug Barrel - Open sights or scoped?

I'll further add depends on where your shooting. If your planing to hunt the edge of a field a scope might be a better option, than say if you were to hunt from a deer stand over a trail smack in the middle of heavy brush. I'll say my rifled barrel slug gun has a scope, but only a 2.5 power.

Hi cap mags for a Remington 7400/7600?

My brother has a Remington 7600 in .30-06. He picked up on of the plastic eagle 10rd after he got the rifle. He's used it but not much. He did have a slight problem he bought some .30-06 FMJ surplus that were just a slight to long to load in the eagle magazine. They would load in the factory...

What will your next handgun be?

If I could find a nice used S&W 629 Classic with a 5" barrel, in a heart beat. Been looking at a Schofield .45 Colt at the warhouse, but just to expensive. That leads me to another Kimber in stainless this time, but like the Schofield to expensive right now. Was really thinking about the new...

    General purpose load

One of the great things about the shotgun is the ability to match your shell to your task. With that said, #6 shot is what Col. Cooper suggested for Ballistic Wampum in his book Fireworks, A Gunsite Anthology.. I tend to stock six loads; #7 1/2, #6, OOBK, 1 BK, 1oz rifled Slug and a Sabot...

TV series "Flash Point" : All fluff and hollywood?

Say what you will about it, but on the first show after the sniper took his shot, he was treated like a murder suspect! The rifle and kit as well as his uniform was taken as evidence. How many other "cop" show even start to show you the after the shooting drama. Most go from shooting to...

    Lee Hand Press

I do not have a hand press, but had always thought of getting one simply to seat bullets at the range for load work up. I've heard they can be hard to full length size rifle brass, but I have no first hand expericance. Don't rule out a single stage press mounted to a board that can be...

    .22 Bolt or autoloading

A bolt .22LR is a very versitle rifle right at home hunting or plinking. I like Marlins both the detachable magazine and the tube magazine models. I also find the Marlin 60 an accurate auto loader. Many including myself also like Ruger 10/22.

The Best Gun shops in Indiana.

I live between Sportsman's Warehouse in Lafayette and Downham & Son in Logansport. Don't get to Logan all that much anymore. Down by the Tracks in Galveston is a little Mom and Pop gun store with good prices on firearms. Last time I was in Guns and Gear it turned my stomach. Big sign on...

Who were the makers of old single-shots?

My Grand Dad (on my Mother's side) had an old Eastern Arms Company 12 ga. single shot break. My other Grand Dad had a single shot 12 ga also, but it's been years since I seen it. It wasn't much to look at back then. He and his brother made firing pins out of nails. They would only last a...

    Rubber pads in gunsafe?

I didn't even think of going that route. I went the cheap route with the plastic liners they sell to sit wet boots on. Wasn't replacing the inside of safe, but didn't want to lay handguns on carpeted shelves. Just didn't seem right. Kobalt is a Lowes' product name. Most likely the liner...
