I've watched the 1st few episodes of "Flash Point" on network TV (9PM on Thursdays) hoping that there would be some real drama and decision-making moments from the viewpiont of the police sniper.

What I've seen so far is all fluff and one-liner quips about things that are very serious. It was too much to hope for any real Swat team input on HOW a police sniper prepares, qualifies and reacts afterward to what he is doing. Instead, we're treated to a couple of overly good-looking actors/actresses who completely blow off any real chance to get into the mind of someone who has such ultra-serious duties that can create real and unimagined stress in just about anyone.

what are your thoughts about this melo-drama?

I watched the 1st episode didn't/can't watch this show plot moves slow, the characters are as interesting as oatmeal.

Hey! Watch it "I like Oatmeal", but I can't watch that poor excuse for a show. It's coming on again tonight and I might DVR it to see if it's even worth that.

It's just one more way to glorify the militarization of the police. I'd rather watch "The Sarah Connor Chronicles " at least the terminatrix is hot

Say what you will about it, but on the first show after the sniper took his shot, he was treated like a murder suspect! The rifle and kit as well as his uniform was taken as evidence. How many other "cop" show even start to show you the after the shooting drama. Most go from shooting to shooting during the episode.

Missed the second episode, but I'll take it he (the sniper) was back at work and cleared of all wrong doing.

Never heard of it. I increasingly find television too stupid to watch. Not trying to sound conceited, but network programming nowadays just really sucks.

I just watched episode 3, probably won't watch it again. I could have sworn they were LAPD swat last week, this week's opening credits clearly showed the Seattle Space Needle then made it clear that the show takes place in Ontario (WTH?). They clearly showed the bad girl (who later became a victim) manipulate the safety on her S&W 4006. They never showed her chamber a round, so props for actually having someone walk around W/ a round already chambered. But at the end when the cops are picking up the weapon nobody bothers to clear it.

Yeah it's gonna be Sarah Conner for me.

I can't get past the fact that the Sgt is the same guy who played the head alien in Galaxy Quest, and that that annoying freaking siren that goes off when they're "scrambled" sounds a lot like the one on the Ghostbuster's ambulance.

About 1/2 of first show is all I could watch....

A line stolen from Popeye cartoon:

"I've had all I can stands, and I can't stands no more..."

Burn Notice is a far better show.

It's Canadian, although they are subtle about it. Hence calling the officers "constable". Set in Toronto, which I guess has a space needle as well as Seattle (confused me for a bit as well).

The new kid in the unit comes from a specific Canadian Military special ops unit, I forget the initials but recognized it when he said them in the pilot.

I thought the treatment of the sniper after he shot was more realistic than most TV, and would be true in the US as a well.

Not terrible, but kind of dull, and when I realized I spent more energy figuring out where it was set than paying attention to the plot, I decided to move on.

Perpetuates the concept of the old original SWAT tv show of 30 years ago, that all the SWATcops have to do is practice and wait around the station til their JBT skills are called for.

LOL! ur kidding right?

space kneedle? Um the thing you saw is called The CN Tower and its located in Toronto Ontario, Canada. The show was orginally meant to be broadcast in Canada but CBS decided to pick it up. Obviously most Canadians would knwo what the cn tower is and be able to tell very easily where the show is set. Google "Flashpoint" there is tons of info on the show.....................

You watched that instead of Burn Notice? You a commie or something?

Oh yes! Just got the first season so I can see more than one or two episodes, watched the first last night. Very silly show, great though. Bruce Campbell plays a great drunk retired whatever he is.

I think Flasphoint's already been canceled,

Meanwhile Cameron , the Terminatrix, is back to wanting to kill john again.

Gotta love them teenage robots in love.

Cancelled?

Um no. Its on a break.. ya know.. what every tv series does at the end of a season? yeah it'll be back next season.;)

I don't know about today's SWAT officer, but in the days when I was on the team, training, and sitting around in your gear all day waiting for a call out would have been miserable!

On the other hand, think of all those nuisance calls we could have avoided, no unrulys, barking dogs, runaways, traffic accidents, hmmm, might not have been that bad after all :D

Can't stomach American TV anymore. I end up watching Chile TV and understand about 10% of it. It's more fun to make up the lines as the show progresses. Makes my wife crack up.

I watched a couple episodes. It seemed about as realistic as Dragnet or Adam12. I don't expect realism from a TV police show. IMO, police work is a lot like a sausage factory. You don't really want to know.

OTOH, you can make the show seem realistic, or at least interesting. I think every episode I have seen has referred to the "Stockholm syndrome" at least half a dozen times in the episode.
