Right now I am usually carrying a ultra lite model 817 in .38 Spl for those formal evenings. Just like campgunner says being that I am a rather large guy i just put it into my front pocket and am good to go.

.22 or .45 Well all I can add to this is that everything that these guys have said about .22's is true in my expierence. I would also suggest the Ruger MKII. But if you do have your heart set on a .45 I would reiterate what some otheres have said about Kimber and Springfield.
