I was wondering if anyone has any hands on expierence with the .45 acp XD, and if so what were your impressions.

I have the XD 45 longslide. It's a fabulous weapon, especially the longslide version. The added barrel length and heavier slide make felt recoil as negligible as it would be coming out of a 1911. The ergonomics are second to none as I can bring it up and boom, three dots and almost instantaneous target aquisition.

Take down is a simple procedure. I can take down and build up an XD before most guys get the barrel bushing off their jamomatic. Plus, 13+1 of .45 is no joke and with an accessory rail system the XD .45 will make the PERFECT nightstand home defender.

Want pics? Just ask.

I am not a big Glock fan, so I have always shyed away from the XD line. That being said, a few weeks ago I was participating in a training course and we had to handle an XD, and I noticed it is MUCH more egronomically designed and comfortable to handle than a glock. I still wouldnt buy one simply out of personal preference, but if I had to choose between a glock and an xd, the xd would win as far as comfort and design goes. I did not get a chance to fire the weapon so I cannot comment on accuracy, but I have heard it is a superb shot for the price.

Hope that helps!

Hands On Experience

Greeting's All-

Yes, I have some hands on experience with the 4" service model Springfield
XD in .45 ACP. Thus far, I'm very impressed with this weapon~! After less
than 150 rounds thru this fine polymer frame weapon, I find that it fits me
better than any other of its kind. Being use to the 1911 grip, the XD is a
near perfect match in my rather large hands. I had no malfunctions of any
type, out of this weapon. That includes the use of five brand new XD mags,
and running REM-UMC 230 grain hard ball ammo. Group size opened up a bit
(as I'm use too small size groups), due to the muzzle flip; but its still good
enough for a combat pistol. I have since added a Streamlight TLR-1, not
only as a light source; but the extra advantage of the added weight near
the muzzle. I have not shot the weapon yet with the light attached, but
that is coming NOV. 4th, hopefully~!:D

Got one 2 mine is the 4inch model great shooter, and very accurate out of all my guns it is the only one that has not had a FTF or FTE fits comfortably in my hand, however I would shy away from it if you have small hands it is very ergonomic but kinda big. but as someone already stated 14 rounds of .45 is no joke.

I have small hands and my XD45 4 inch is a perfect fit where a SiG P226 is actually too big for me to hold properly.

That relief cut out in the backstrap is a wonder. I have about a thousand rounds through mine and it has never missed a beat with any type of ammunition or any shooter I let borrow it at the range. Incredibly good gun.

In my opinion the XD45 is the best all round defensive handgun on the market today - the military should buy a boat load of them.

I have the XD45 Tactical (5 inch barrell) and love it. I have two Kimbers and enjoy them but when I shoot in competition, I use the XD. With the fourteen rounds on board, it really handles well in Action Pistol.
I competed with a Glock 21 for ten years and did well, but my XD is a better weapon. What I like best about the XD, is the ability to shoot semi wadcutters for practice. When you practice as much as I do, commercial ammo gets expensive.

I have had my XD45 for about 6 months and, because I own my own farm, I have my own shooting range. I have put around 5K through the XD and have yet to have any kind of problem. I put a variety of ammo through it with no apparent problem.

Accuracy? I am 70 years old and accuracy, for me, is a relative thing. I can put all 14 rounds through a 9" paper plate at 25 yards with no problem at all. If I am attacked by a 9" paper plate I am good to go.

For me the XD has been a fine, fine gun. Nuff said:)

I've had my service model for about 6 months and liked the 45 so much I got a 9mm to go with it. :D Very nice shooter. No complaints, it goes bang when you pull the trigger and hits POA, if I do my part. Shoots just about anything, even my light loaded 230gr RN. The holster that comes with it should be used as skeet target, but the loader and mag pouch are fine. The finish is holding up well. I would recommend shooting one if you can, but once you do plan on taking one home with you. :D

I lucked in to a deal on the 4" model recently. I like it so much I'm seriously contemplating selling my beloved SIG P220A. If finances suddenly became a major issue and I had to choose, my SIG would probably lose.

I recently started taking my USPf 45 to all the gun shows I attend,(as trade material),this due to my XD45-4"...:D

I picked on up last week from a member of this board.

Took it out the next day and put approx. 100 rounds through it.

While the gun is much slimmer than my Glock 30, I find that the recoil is much more noticeable from the XD45 and it does not point naturally for me.

I'll admit that SA(The Croatians) have done a wonderful job making a thin double stack .45ACP. It's a quality gun and anyone would be well served by it. It's just not for me.

I am already planning on getting rid of the XD45 and getting another Glock.:D

I am not a big Glock fan, so I have always shyed away from the XD line.

This is the main problem with the "polymer shy".

You guys have to stop lumping all polymer pistols into the Glock category. Each and every one of them have thier own unique attributes that seperate them from each other. Quit being so closed minded.
