What caliber do you want to see tested in Ballistic Gelatin

I'd like to see some hot 500 S&W mag loads. That 385 gr. Remington Corelokt Hollowpoint running about 1800 fps would be impressive to see!!!!

Fired my S&W .500 today for the first time and I want to say

I love my 500, it is hands down my favorite gun to shoot!! I have a light target load of Trail Boss under Berry's plated bullets that I can shoot all day long and it's a real tack driver!! I use Lil-Gun for the full house loads with Hornady, CPB, and Remington bullets. With those I'm good for...

500 Magnum as an SD Gun?

Without hearing protection a shot from a short barreled 500 mag will be almost as harmful to the person behind the trigger as the unfortunate bastard in front of it!!!

    Made Smoke

    Nice Walker!!!!!!!

Very wierd experience at the range today

Unlike the ram on other C&B revolvers which are shaped to fit a roundball, the ram on a walker is shaped like a cone because it was designed for pointy Picket bullets. I wonder if that could have caused enough vacuume to draw the ball out? With the amount of force needed to ram the ball home, I...

    Good deal on Uberti Walker

Nice, I spent $350 for mine at Cabela's last summer. I see now that they are up to $400.

    1858 Holster

I think it looks more realistic than a manufactured one from a store. This handmade one is probably more authentic. I imagine that many of the holsters used during the period were handcrafted by their owners!!! NICE WORK!!!

    Differences in Manuals

....agreed, it's ALWAYS better to approach the limits than to exceed them!!! If you have conflicting data, start with the more conservative load and work up from there if you need more power. Likewise you should never exceed the maximum published load in your most aggressive manual!!

    RCBS 5-0-5 Beam Scale Error

I used to work in an electronics manufacturing plant and we used lots of ohaus digital scales to take accurate weights of adhesives, parts, insulation, etc. They worked OK in a factory setting because they underwent constant maintenence. The had to undergo frequent calibration and testing to...

    Cap and ball revolver accoutriments?

Lube Pills, pre-measured charges (or paper cartriges if you really want to get fancy), in moist conditions you may want to seal your precussion caps on the nipples with wax. Another option is to by several spare cyclinders and load them ahead of time, then you only need to swap them out and...

    4-bore, 8-bore ?

Those big guns are meant to be held against your crotch to absorb the massive recoil. :what:

    460 load

So how do you guys like the big 460?? I have a 500 S&W but I seriously considered the 460. I went with the .50 cal cause I wanted the biggest nastiest thing on the Range.....and I got it, I just love this thing!!!!

The type of bullets that make people cringe!

There are many ghosts of dead Nazi and Japanese soldiers who can attest to the killing power of a .45 ACP hardball!!

    Bones:the s and w 500mag.....

I think trying to bang away in a gunfight with a 500 mag using no ear protection would be almost as harmful to the person behind the trigger as the one in front of it!!!

    4-bore, 8-bore ?

The problem with those 4-bore guns is that inner city gang bangers like to hide them in their wastebands then use them to rob liquor stores!!! :uhoh:

    Let's DUMP the .357 Magnum.

Ever notice that Hornady now places a soft red rubber balistic tip on their hollow point bullets so that they won't cause injury if one should accidentally hit someone??

What's the best way to describe recoil?

I shoot a 500 S&W alot and it is definately not for rapid fire. While I can certainly handle the recoil of full house loads, it takes awhile to recover from each shot and it is nearly impossible not to flinch once you send a few down range. Even with my light Trail Boss target loads this...

The type of bullets that make people cringe!

One of the most destructive bullets in existance, the Norweigan Raufoss Mk211 in .50 BMG These things are illegal to civilians and there is argument whether they should even be allowed under Geneva Conventions. A hit from one of these can literally blow a man to pieces...
