It looks like the 'light and fast' bullets (.357 Sig and 5.7mm) are edging out most of the 'slow and fat' competitors! The .357Sig is who I am pulling for, but the Mak round looks nice. Does anyone know what pistols and JHP/expanding ammunition are available in this caliber?

Thank you,

I'd like to see some hot 500 S&W mag loads. That 385 gr. Remington Corelokt Hollowpoint running about 1800 fps would be impressive to see!!!!

altho not a gee golly whiz bang powerhouse i'd like to see the test of a .17 hmr and a .17hm2 in gelatin............

Yeah, that was a fun test to have done. The owner of the .17HMR rifle was surprised at the lack of penetration - it was funny. Once you shoot a few bullets into gelatin, it is pretty easy to tell where the bullet stopped at just a glance - this being his first time shooting gelatin, he did not see where the bullet stopped. He was looking at about 10" depth (what he obviously expected), and would not believe me the first two times that I pointed out to him where it actually stopped. This seems like a nice little round to have a moderately expanding, deeper penetrating bullet - just to give a few more options to the shooter.

OK. I just found a range report where a guy water tested some of the Silver Bear. It looks like it will expand in water, so it will expand in gelatin to a slightly lesser extent. Penetration (from that account) looks like it's OK. Should be a good test. What about S&B, did they/do they make anything for this caliber? Including one FMJ, we are looking at two shots of each JHP and one of the FMJ, or something similar.

It looks like the .357SIG is currently the runner-up - this would be a nice test too... lots of ammunition selection, so one block could yield a test of five different brands/bullets... lots more data points, although less 'statistically valid' than the 9x18mm test with two shots of each load, etc. I imagine the .357 will sting my hand when I'm shooting it too...
