    Marlin 1894 .357 Rifle...Who owns one??

I have an 1894CB with the 20" octagonal barrel. It is the most fun gun I own. There must be some difference between the triggers on the regular 1894s and the Cowboy model, because if I even think about pulling the trigger, it will fire... and it breaks as smooth as glass (my fing'o'meter says...

    Tell me about your...

I've owned 4 XDs. An XD-9 SubCompact, an XD-45 Tactical (.45gap), an XD-357 Service, and an XD-9 Tactical. I kept the XD-357-Service and the XD-9 Tactical, and have modified the XD-9 a bit (trigger-job, magwell, etc...). They were all phenominal shooters, and I really wish that I had kept the...

Is the SAR2 or WASR in 5.45x39 worth getting?

I've got one, a Polish Tantal, and enough ammo to be useful if I should 'need' it aside from what I regularly shoot. If 5.45x39 eventually becomes impractical to shoot, I'll get a .223 AR or a .308 PTR91 or something. An AK74 is indeed worth getting, just buy ammo regularly and in bulk.

    Another vote for a pump-shotgun.

    M&P vs XD

Both are good guns... The M&P gets the nod for magazine capacity and the ability to custom-fit the grip to the user's hand. Both are accurate and handle recoil well. Different shooters will gravitate towards the choice which works for them. Personally, I've found that the XD feels more like a...

    Civil Defense Rifle

Probably something akin to a Ruger Mini-14 or Armalite AR180B. Cheap, easy to use, and chambered in .223/5.56. Maybe they'd issue some old M16A1s & A2s... but it's unlikely (they wouldn't have enough, for one thing).

Which sub-compact .40 would you get?

Out of the 3, I'd go for the XD. The only reason I don't still have my XD Subcompact 9mm is because I got rid of all of my 9mms. (my reasoning was, if I want to shoot cheaply, I'll shoot .22s... if I have to shoot for real, it's going to be .357sig or .45acp). I'd own an XD-40SC, if I shot...

Depends on how 'close' a CQB we're talking about... Katana might work.

Rail Handguard for Polish Tantal AK?

Very interesting... I just removed my gas-tube to check it, and then reinstalled it to verify it's relationship to the trunnion and gas block. It was perfecty concentric, straight, and aligned. I fired 8 mags through it yesterday with zero issues. I will keep this in mind though, thanks! It...

    What is your opinion?

Steve, EoTech recently brought these to market, but they are the 'schizznit'. http://www.binoculars.com/products/eotech-3x-magnifier-with-flip-to-side-mount-57269.html

Rail Handguard for Polish Tantal AK?

I have no delusions of co-witnessing the EoTech. Oh well... I plan to get a quick-release mount just in case. This is the part, and where I got it:UTG AK Rail Handguard

    A new AK

WASRs seem to do just fine for what they were intended... I don't think that anyone who buys one is under the assumption that they are getting a finely tuned precision instrument. But, then again, I've never seen a WASR go t**s-up or even be remarkably unreliable... At the very least, I think...

    A new AK

Very cool! Thanks... if (perhaps I should say 'when') I get the notion to build my current AK a sibling, you'll be the first person I'll look up.

    A new AK

I've never built an AK, so I have no experience by which to recommend that... it may or may not be difficult to build one which runs as accurately and reliably as the better commercial jobs, or as cheaply as the low-end ones. I have a Polish Tantal AK-74... after handling AKs of all makes...

    What is your opinion?

The nice thing about an ACOG (or any Trijicon product, for that matter) is the lack of dependance on batteries... Even comparing the Trijicon Reflex sight with the EoTech makes this fact a big plus for the Trijicon. On the other hand... you can buy 2 (or 3) Eotechs for the price of one ACOG...

which pistol in 357 sig would you recomend?

Having owned and carried 3 different handguns chambered for .357sig, I can give you my take on them: Sig SP2340: Phenominal accuracy and quality, good ergos and reasonable size. It is a pain to disassemble and reassemble (compared to other Sigs), and the high bore-axis produces significant...

I am having a hard time trying to decide on a caliber for a defensive handgun

Lots of good answers up here... All I have to add is an alternative; why not keep the platform you have (which I assume you are familiar and comfortable with aside from your stopping power question)... and buy some hotter SD loads for it? Double-Tap produces a .380 load which roughly equals...
