1911 Grips... Help me choose mine...

Thanks for the good word Slabside :D Many folks appreciate the classic look of fine checkering, as well as the added grip. Gunstock checkering will never go out of style, IMO.

    Hakan's latest - Koa Wood 1911 grips

Not only is Hakan a true craftsman and gentleman, he does mighty fine camera work too. Nice pics and nice grips! Koa is a Hawaiian wood isnt it?

    Re-evaluating the 1911

Not only possible, it would be darn strange if it didn't! Welcome to the Righteous Kindred Brotherhood of Browning (comes right after RKBA in the alphabet).

My relationship with my 1911 has reached a whole new level!

I'd always had a soft spot for 1911s. When I actually bought one I found that it truely was an infectious disease, more like an addiction that requires more and more 1911s. It won't stop with just one. Fortunately, gun polygamy is perfectly legal, you can marry as many as you want. (hey, if...

    1911 yes, no, maybe so?

I'd recommend getting as basic a 1911 as I could find, such as a Springfield WWII milspec. IMO, if you get polymer or other features that depart from the original, it might shade your opinion of the classic 1911 when such gizmos aren't truly classic at all. If you want options later, by all...

    Hassle at WalMart

Interesting thread. I tend to side with Riley on most of this. Reason is, a single box of ammo is too pidley for a DA to get worked up about. Not saying I would have handled it the way his buddy did, there were other ways to go about it.

Whee got a RIA 1911 Govt

Congrats on the purchase. Me and many other RIA owners are very pleased with the performance. I consider it more a 1911 clone than a variant. Happy shooting!

    You can't legislate morality

"You can't legislate morality." Inasmuch as murder and other crimes (using guns) is a moral issue, I'm wondering if this angle has been used as part of a pro-gun argument. Banning guns won't change the attitude of murderers, robbers, rapists, etc. In short, you can't legislate morality...

    Best low-end 45acp?

I vote for the Rock Island 1911.

    Range Report: Jennings/Bryco .380

My little Jennings 22 isn't big enough for a doorstop :( Make a good paperweight though. Wont feed anymore, and lost the little safety detent ball, so it's not only unreliable, it's also unsafe. Pretty though, with nice wood grips. Should probably remove the firing pin and make some sort of...

    Project 1911 Grips

    Should I buy a Heritage in .17?

If you want it, go for it! I picked up a used one, 22lr/22mag, and it's been great, and tons-o-fun :D

    Guns in the NFL

Hmmm, one of two possibilities: 1. The NFL's policy toward guns is successful in deterring mass slaughter. 2. Players have proven that large numbers of citizens can own guns without killing themselves or others. I don't think the NFL or any other sport should promote a political view...

    Terrorist attack

Terrorists would love to have our own air force shoot down a hijacked plane full of passengers. Can you imagine the distrust and fear that would create? I don't think it'll happen though, would be very difficult for them to orchestrate and they'd have to be real lucky to boot.

    Aircraft Carrier For Sale.

I'd bid, but I want the airplanes. I don't think the price includes airplanes.

Has anyone ever read their gun's owners manual?

I always skip the first 28 pages of safety info...and by golly that only leaves 2 pages of useful parts diagram and other info. Sad huh?

American Shooter, shot of the week

And the fishing programs show 'em catching one fish after the other for an entire 30 mins...uh huh. Make no mistake, BM is a great shot and those guys are great fishermen, but you can do amazing things with 8 hours of edited tape. Pro photograpers take hundreds of shots to find that one...

Pretend to be an ''anti'' ... could you?

In today's sue-happy society I could make a real good argument for avoiding the use of deadly force in self-defense. I agree it's better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. However, if you enjoy an affluent, happy lifestyle then think of the living hell your life could become as a result of...

Neil Smith - the 1911 effect

Great article. The best tools have staying power. On the political side, a president has to make so many people happy there's almost no way he can avoid lying, and to appear quite stupid in the process. Doesn't help when he's stupid to begin with.

    Disappointing CHL instructor

Exactly what we all need...to get comfortable with the idea of pointing unloaded guns at people. Sounds like this guy was feeding his need for power. He oughta know better and that's the only reason I can think of that he'd do a thing like that.
