    Frizzen question

I have an old flinter, and when the flint strikes the frizzen, it actually makes scores on the frizzen. Is this a sign that it's lost its hardness?

    Can you over-compress black powder?

I was re-loading some 45LC with Pyrodex P and screwed up the seating height. I had 35 grains in the cartridge and seated the bullet about 3/8 too low. Is there any problem firing the round? I've rammed down some 60 grain loads in my Walker till the lever stopped, but the reloading machine has...

    1851 Conversion Problem

One of my friends has this 38 Special conversion gun that he wanted me to take a look at. Here's the problem: the barrel wont come off the arbor. It goes to the end of the wedge slot and stops dead. Also, it won't twist on the arbor. Has anyone ever seen a gun like this before? It has absolutely...

    CVA rifle loading question

I know that you are supposed to use FF in rifles. But if all I have is FFF, can I still use it, and does the load measure have to be adjusted? Thanks.

    New parts, old gun

So I picked up a first model dragoon the other day (not a replica) S/N 4xxx, and it was in pretty good condition, except the cylinder wouldn't lock up. I took it apart when I got home, and saw that the head of the bolt was peened down. Now I've got a couple of Uberti Walkers sitting in the safe...

    Need help on a Paterson

A friend gave me his Paterson to work on. What a PITA! I have a question on re-assembly: in what oder do the top plate and the back breach go on? It would seem that the top plate should go on first, with the hand fitted into the back breach as it is placed on the frame and screwed on. The only...

    Walker at night

I was working the range last night during deputy quals, and brought along the trusty Walker. Well, we turned out all the lights and brought out the camera during a lull in the action. This was the result of 60 grains of Pyrodex.

    A bad Pietta Remington

I decided that I wanted a Remington to go with all my Colts, so I ordered one from Cabela's for $199, which seemed to be a good price. When it arrived a couple of days ago, I took it out of the package and it looked beautiful, real nice bluing job, and seemed to work well as far as the action...

    Pulp got me thinking

Is there any reason that you couldn't load BP into a regular 12 gauge shotgun shell, and if you could, how many grains would you load?

    Original Walkers!

Just got back from the antique gun show in Las Vegas, and was actually able to handle two original Walkers, B Co. #8 and #43 that are going up for auction next week. Up close and personal, they don't look all that different from the first and second model Dragoons that were for sale (from...

    Interesting Walker question

So I took the trusty Walker to the range last weekend and here are the results: My question is, how do I lower the POI of the lube pill? :neener:

    How the Walker turned out

In thanks to all those who answered my questions about bluing removal, I thought I'd post a picture of the final product. I finally wound up using a commercial bluing remover and then applied bore butter to the unfinished metal. I purposely did not keep it real clean to effect an "aged" looked...

    Bluing removal question

I've read a couple of posts here from folks that have used naval jelly to remove the bluing from their pistols. Just exactly how is this done, and does it have any permanent negative effects upon the weapon? I'd sort of like to try this on my Walker, but don't want to screw up the pistol. :uhoh...

    Walker question

Just got my new Walker from Midway yesterday, :D and have a question. The pins on the barrel-frame link are so tight that I have to rap on the muzzle with a soft mallet to get the barrel and frame together. Is this normal? My 1851 and 1860 slide right together with no problem at all.

    Black powder question

I'm sorta new to BP shooting, and I wonder what the real difference is between Goex, 777 and Pyrodex. Because of the idiotic storage regulations here in San Diego, it's almost impossible to get anything but Pyrodex, so is it worthwhile to travel up to Riverside to get the real thing?
