I have an old flinter, and when the flint strikes the frizzen, it actually makes scores on the frizzen. Is this a sign that it's lost its hardness?

frizzen flintlock wear

I guess no. My T/C Hawken has always done it. TC%20Flintlock_zpsw7ti0wvv.jpg You can feel where the metal has been remove after many firing.

The sparks you get when the flint strikes the frizzen are actually red-hot pieces of steel scraped off by the flint. So, the scoring is expected over time.
