Sometimes, having a slightly oddball caliber is fortunate in times like these. I was at Cabelas the other day and most of the shelves were pretty bare. However, they still had 10mm (something I picked-up last year) and .41mag (something a friend owns).

I'm really on the fence about this. I don't use them much and they're taking up room in the safe. Further, given the high prices, I could get a lot out of them. I'm much more interested in a good hunting rifle right now or a nice O/U shotgun. I could easily finance both by selling a few items...

You might check out Snoqualmie Valley Rifle Club - see if they'll let you join just for a few months. If you're up there that long, I'm assuming that you're a firefighter, so they may cut you a deal.

In terms of chrome vs. non-chrome, I believe that early Russian SKS's did not have chrome lined barrels. (or, at least my 1950 one doesn't have it). I think they started getting chrome in 1951.

I've had an 11-87 Premier 12ga for the past 20 years. I've never had a problem with mine. I've used it for mostly upland bird & some trap. It helps to keep the rubber barrel seal clean, oiled and in good shape, but I have to admit I've let mine go to pot on occasion.

I say, the more the merrier. However, I don't keep very much on hand for calibers I don't shoot often. I probably only have around 1000 rounds for .22LR and maybe 250-700 rounds each for my "rainy day" calibers (5.56, 7.62x39, 9mm, 12ga). For some reason, I can never pull together enough money...
