I always said I'd never own a Glock. That is, until I held a G36. Almost same size grip as my 1911's, and with the Pearce grip extension, can get full grip on it, and still conceals easier than my XD Sub compact w/ the 10 rd. mag.
If you start to flinch before you pull the trigger in anticipation of the recoil, you might be shifting your grip a bit lower on the rear of the grip (beavertail if you need a term). If anyone you know has a semi-auto in .22, you might even want to get some range time with it until you get...
It's funny how a new purchase can lead to a whole page of responses, and quickly turn into another "anti" brand discussion. I sympathize with your bad experience with Taurus' CS. All the complaints dealing with them has not been very positive. But again, not every manufactured good will be...
Mr. Rodgers, this has to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing 1911's I have ever seen. The melt job you did makes it look like it was supposed to be that way, rather than an afterthought, like some of the smoothing jobs I've seen. All in all, a beautiful piece of work.
+ 1 on 1Kperday's advice. See if he'll let you carry it for a trial run, that might help you decide. You might want to consider a good shoulder holster, will help to take off some of the load on the belt.
I think the opposite when I see a GI model. I can't stand the smaller beaver tail on them. To my eye, the larger beaver tail is what makes the gun stand out from all the others.
The only things you can expect are, a huge stupid grin when you start squeezing out the rounds, and a frown from running out of ammo !!! I'm now over 2,000+ rds, not one hiccup.
Since it looks like we'll never get the chance to see the OSS line, look at the Taurus 24/7 longslide line. Almost the same as the OSS, I think the only difference is the OSS has an ambi safety.
Thats the only reason I haven't got the M&P in 45 to match my 9mm. I keep hearing the hi-cap mags are coming, but nothing yet. Or how many, and will it alter the grip at all.
Congrats on the XD and welcome to the club !! My XD subcompact in 9mm is almost boring to shoot anymore, but I still carry it and it's the first one out when I go to the range.
Haven't shot it, but from the looks of it and the overall dimensions, appears to be very close to the OSS that Taurus keeps hinting at, but can't seem to get out to the public. I like the design though.
