My dear rifle is a Chinese SKS. I use the tula 154gr soft points. Complete pass through ss said before. I have plenty of blood trail to follow. Just have never had a deer run more than 40 yards after being shot.
When I was a c.o. I carried either a s&w .40 or a glock 19. But I was also a certified police officer. Actually a c.o. at the state is covered under leosa.
I guess I am old School when it comes to cleaning my guns. I still do it the way the marine corps taught me. Completely field strip, clean and reassemble once a day for 3 consecutive day's.
Oklahoma has gone to mostly on-line this year. A guy should be able to take and pass the course in a few hours. I have seen kids sit through the all day course and pass the test. And they were 5-6 y/o.
Congrats to you young man. I know the feelings that you have had. As I also got my first deer ever this year. And to think that I am 46.
You will remember everything about this hunt for the rest of your life. Just a start of some great memories. Once again conrats to you.
I will be hunting with my SKS for deer again this year. Will be using 154gr SP by Tulammo.
When I sighted in for this round I was hitting a bowling pin 7 out of 8 shots at 100 yards. Not bad for a rifle that is considered junk by a lot of people.
I usually shoot the SKS within 2-3 MOA.
When I first started deer hunting in 2009 I picked up a book by stoger arms. SP? It was the deer hunters pocket guide. Lots of good info in that book.
Growing up my Grandfather never never deer hunted. So I had never deer hunted either. I was 42 my first time out. Best of luck to you.
I picked up my new gen3 G19 back in may. Manufacture date was 12-1-2012. The trigger is right around 5 pounds w/o any mods. I have yet to have any BTF issues as of yet.
I even qualified with it at my annual range qual for the dept. I work for.
