    22lr pocket plinker

How about an old H&R? There are scads of 'em on Gunbroker for cheap and they're built like an old Buick. All of the following are from the early '50s. I have a 6" 922 that I got for $50 but it's so ugly I never thought about photos. It has not one spec of bluing left but, still, it works as well...

Bad wrist searching for lightest recoil 9mm

Check out a Star MOD 30. They're great guns and they weigh a ton. The recoil is very slight.

    Tennessee Gun Shops

If you like C&R stuff, especially long guns, call Allen's Gun Shop in Clarksville on Dover RD. They come up with some cool stuff. You gotta see what's hanging on the walls there.

    New (to me) SKS

AMR Arms in Clarksville, TN, has Chinese Milsurp fiberglass stocks, if you want to go that way. They're pretty cheap, too.

I've ordered from them many times and they were great with me.

    Reliable / Inexpensive SKS ?

Investigate the Norincos, in particular, the short ones (Cowboy Companion or Paratrooper models.) They're going for about $350 or so on Gunbroker now but they are the coolest. I had a Yugo, bought a regular Norinco which made the Yugo feel like a telephone pole in comparison so I sold the Yugo...

Thoughts on Surplus CZ 83 ?

There are a lot of 9X18 guns out there already and probably a lot more that will surface. I suspect that people will still want to shoot them when the supply of guns does eventually dry up and they're going to be buying ammo. Presently, you can buy new ammo for .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .38 S&W...

    Own Only One .22LR Handgun?

For plinking, I recommend a Model 18. It's a sweet, sweet gun. You already have some S&Ws; with an 18, you can practice on the same platform for pennies.

    Aguila=CCI rimfire quality?

I really like Aguila .22LR. Their Supermaximums, in my own crude 2X4 penetration tests, went deeper than Velocitors shot from the same handguns at the same distances. My only gripe is that my TP 22 won't feed them. Sigh....

    AR for 600 dollars?

A complete one for $600.... My FFL has a complete weapon for $600 right now. It's got a 16" barrel and iron sights. I'm not an AR head so you'd have to ask him for particulars. He, on the other hand, is Mr. AR, whether it's for parts or complete weapons. For you tactical people, he's someone...

    any semi-auto suggestions for me?

It looks like any other Norinco SKS that I've seen except for the muzzle end of the barrel. It appears that they altered regular ones to make 'em. The underside of the stock even has the slot cut out to accomodate the folding bayonet. Were they still making new SKSs in the late 80s? No matter...

    any semi-auto suggestions for me?

Why not buy a Norinco SKS, a Paratrooper model if you can find one, and be done with it? The ammo is cheap, way cheaper than 5.56, and it's a great gun. If you want to expand your horizons later, you can, but, in the meantime, you'll be thrilled. The Norinco SKS, especially the Paratrooper...

    Looking for affordable first AR

The FFL I use for shipping is really into the tactical stuff. He works out of his house and he's very AR savvy. Lots of the soldiers here at Ft. Campbell go to him. He buys, sells and makes 'em. He's a true stand up guy, prompt, polite and very business-like. If you PM me, I could introduce you...

    Anyone know a degreaser/solvent...

Using gasoline as a cleaning fluid is exactly the opposite of "proper." Really. Static is an ignition source as are ordinary light switches on a lamp or in the wall. Around here, kerosene costs maybe 50 cents more than gas per gallon, max, at a bunch of gas stations. Even on the hottest of...

    surplus 8mm yugo questions

I have a bunch of surplus 8MM that's brass-cased and, every now and then, one of the case necks will split. I have two Mausers, a Czech-made K98k and a VZ 24, also Czech. All that happens is some of the gases escape through the action. The bullet always makes its way downrange as there's power...

Frustrated with trying to learn in NYC

I have a friend who lives in NYC and has gone through the hoops to own 2 handguns. The trick to buying a handgun within the given purchase-time window is to find a local dealer who will allow you to reserve a gun with a deposit or have one shipped there and is willing to let it sit there...

Gun, hunting and shooting language that has made it way into poplular Americaculture

A "flash in the pan" comes and goes quickly without any lasting effect, like when when a flintlock's priming powder doesn't set off the main charge.
