    Storing Gun in Sheepskin question

Recently I acquired a 150 year old percussion pistol that came with an old sheepskin homemade storage case having leather outside and fur inside. I know storing a gun in contact with leather is bad but the pistol is in outstanding condition. I am wondering if the oils in the fur have helped in...

    What's the caliber

I acquired a custom rifle by Bennett Gun Works, Delmar, NY based the a FN action. There is no caliber marked on the barrel. The bore diameter is 0.272 inches. I was thinking it was a 270 winchester but they have a bullet diameter of 0.277 inches. Any thoughts.......

A couple of questions on a Springfield 1861

Watson's reply mades me think he was the original Watson that accompanied Sherlock Holmes. I can only add that I have had a number of CW rifles as well as others of that time period and I could not detect any rifling remaining. Relax I think you have a winner.......:D

    Hodgdon Se7en

This is what Hodgdon claims: Triple Seven produces the highest velocities of all granular muzzleloading propellants when compared by volume (see Comparison Chart below). An added bonus is that this enhanced velocity results in a flatter trajectory and greater down range energy. Triple Seven...

    Remington 1816 Flintlock Rifle Questions

Since I shoot with the camera about as well as I shoot my muzzle loaders, the attached photos don't do justice to this wonderful rifle. When I was taking the pics showing more of the rifle the colors in the wood was lost. I attached a few shots showing patches of wood to provide an example...

    Remington 1816 Flintlock Rifle Questions

Thanks 4v50Gary; Thanks for your reply. I'll be looking at this rifle tomorrrow and I'll let the board know what happened. A question that I forgot to ask is since the the barrel is a 1:39 twist: would the use of cast conical bullets or sabots provide reasonable accuracy? Are there any...
