    Pure lead 556

Could you cast a pure lead 5.56 bullet, with no jacket? Or rather would it hold together when fired?

    Not-so-long rifle

range report: I managed to get out and shoot this little guy over the holiday. This was primarily just a function test. I used 30 and then 40 grains of FFF BP with a patched 440 round ball. The rifle functioned very well. Next time out I will refine the load for recoil and accuracy.

    Not-so-long rifle

Thank you for all the kind words and advice. From what all of you have said, I'll probably start out with 30 grains of FFF and see where that goes.

    Not-so-long rifle

So I just finished this pint sized kentucky rifle for my son. Now the question is what is the appropriate charge? The caliber is .45, length 23", slow twist. I am going to shoot a .440 round ball. The CVA manual calls for 50-80 grains FFG in the Kentucky rifle, and 20-40 FFFG in the kentucky...

    damp powder

I gave the gun a good cleaning and found no reason for the gun not to fire. I guess I'll just switch back to black powder.

    damp powder

On a recent hunting trip, my .50 kentucky refused to fire even after 6 #11 caps. I pulled the ball and am ready to start again. Before I load up and have the same problem, I decided to "test" the powder. I poured a table spoon of FFG pyrodex into a glass bowl and presented a lit piece of...

    cant find .32 rifle

even the 36 caliber rifles are hard to find. I might just end up in a .45 and loadinging it real light. There seems to be a lot more .45 kits on the market.

    cant find .32 rifle

I am attempting to find a traditional .32 cal percussion rifle in youth size, or a decent priced full size rifle I can make kids size. I'm not really having a lot of luck. Anyone have any ideas? Evidently squirrel guns aren’t that popular anymore.

    SKS barrel chop

I finished the rifle a few months back but only recently got out to test fire it. It runs like a champ. That is a fairly cheap sight on there, but it shoots amazingly accurate.

    SKS barrel chop

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysvpz1g9AeY This guy is an amateur, but his videos are pretty well done. He also has videos on crowning a barrel. One thing that I did different than he did was started with a angle grinder like he did to remove the bulk, being VERY careful of courese. Then...

    SKS barrel chop

thanks for the info. I think I am going to keep mine black. Did you, or anyone else, grind down the bolt so that the magazine could be removed while the bolt was forward? I did mine today. Everything appears to have gone right, but I wont know for sure till I get it all together and test it out.

    SKS barrel chop

The crown was very hard to get a picture of. I finished it with 2000 grit wet/dry and 0000 steel wool, so the glare was throwing the auto focus off. wabashman- that is the same stock I ordered. Did you color it and how, or did it come that way? and how long did it take to arrive?

    SKS barrel chop

So I have been researching the internet from one end to the other. Here is what I have found and what I believe to be true. 1. I am going to cut the barrel to 17 inches. From what I have read this should work, should. If not there are things that can be done with the gas port and the recoil...

    SKS barrel chop

I am familiar with those requirements. My worry is that if I remove a portion of the barrel, say down to 16.5", I will be removing more than half of the barrel beyond the gas block. This will cut the "dwell time" (if thats the right word) that the round is in the barrel and beyond the gas block...

    SKS barrel chop

I am going to take a Norinko SKS and put it into a bullpup stock. I am also planning on cutting, crowning, threading, and adding a comp or brake. I would like to hear from anyone that has ever done this. I am particularly interested in knowledge of barrel lenght that worked (cycled with off the...

    commercial bullet diameter

I was watching a video on slugging rifle barrels to determine true bore diameter. This got me thinking, are all commercial loads of the same caliber to the same diameter down to the .001 of an inch? For example.. is every .45 ACP round exactly .450 or are some .449 and some .451?
