    Awesome experience at the range

Even if I had expensive/valuable guns, I don't think I'd be stingy with letting people try. Breaking a gun has got to be a hard thing to do. But using up ammunition is another story. You probably fired close to $40 of that guys ammo. He must be one helluva guy.

    At The Range Yesterday

Yesterday was my first outing with the scope on my new Marlin 925. I shot lots of bull's eyes on two different sized targets at 50 yards. But this one is my favorite. Yes I know no bull's eye on this one, but it has the best grouping from my 8 shots (7 in magazine, 1 in the...

    Wal-Marts that sell firearms?

After not finding any here in Austin.. my first thought was because of the politics of selling guns. But I believe you -- money talks. But at the same time, if Austin's WalMarts had poor guns sales, that would also still be attributed to politics. This town is full of liberals... the...

    Wal-Marts that sell firearms?

That's a good question -- I wish I knew the answer before I visited 3 WalMarts here in Austin. Obviously, state laws (and reputations) have no bearing on whether or not WalMart will sell them. I was quite surprised to discover that none of them in the capital of the of Texas don't sell...

    My youngin' wants a rifle.....

I considered getting a youth rifle for my 6 year old son, but I ultimately decided against it. I really enjoy shooting (just targeting for me) and I'd like my boy to come with me some times. I think, though, that the newly mounted scope will help him. I got some rings that are slightly...

    My New Rifle (w/ pics)

So it took me a while to pick... and I even bought one that I ended up returning the next day because I decided it wasn't the one for me... But I finally got it. Nothing "fancy," expensive, or powerful, but I love it nonetheless. I'm not a hunter, I shoot purely for the fun of it...

Gave a nice gun, a nice home

Interesting. You make it sound like one of those old junker cars that people buy because it "has soul" and just needs some love. But for messing around and misc recreation, I don't think $45 can be beat. I'd probably have bought it, too.

    Marlin 925, 60

That 981T is pretty nice, too. Too bad it's not available in a hardwood stock. That would be the clincher right there.

    Marlin 925, 60

Thanks for all the input guys. I actually haven't seen any guns at WalMarts here. They don't carry any guns, just ammunition. I don't know why, it seems bizarre -- considering this is central Texas. I discovered Marlin in the used section at Cabelas; then again on their new-gun rack. I...

    Marlin 925, 60

Well I've already convinced myself against buying a youth rifle for the boy. So now I'm back leaning towards the 925.

    Marlin 925, 60

Since it seems I'll be happy with either one I get, perhaps I'll get the Mod 60 for myself, (since it's cheaper) and a Cricket youth model for my 6 year old. He has held one to his shoulder at Cabela's and it fits him perfectly. I'm familiar with shooting having done so with my dad when I...

    Marlin 925, 60

Here I go again. Perhaps I'm thinking about this too hard. I bought a used Mossberg 640 Mag and I returned it. The scope it came with was garbage, and I also decided I don't need or even want a magnum. I'm looking to target shoot pretty much exclusively and between the Mod 60 and 925...

Bought a used Mossberg 640KA Ammo Question

As the title shows, I just bought a used Mossberg 640KA .22 magnum. I've got a question for all you folks out there because I didn't like the answer I got from a guy at the range. (not that I think he's wrong, I just didn't like the answer. :)) And I'm having trouble google'ing it...

    I'm <about to be> a New Owner.

I certainly have nothing against buying a used rifle. It's just a matter of finding one that I like. Heavy barrel gun... what's a good example of one? I like the looks of the Mark II, too.

    I'm <about to be> a New Owner.

In the next couple weeks (whenever the state sends me my updated driver's license) I plan on buying a .22. I do not plan on hunting. Not that I have anything against hunting or hunters -- in fact, I think it's awesome catching your own food. Hunting just isn't for me. On the other...

even disney promoted guns for self protection.......

And news reporters can't (or don't, whichever) distinguish between PEOPLE and THINGS. Examples: Any time you hear about a car chase or traffic accident, reporters will say something like "An SUV crashed into a street light," or "a small compact car was trying to get away from police."...

Good rifle range near Austin, TX

I'm not quick to give up. I'm going to try and research a bit more -- all I need is one little spot! Ordinarily I wouldn't mind driving a bit to get to shoot, but between my work schedule and the the joy of picking up my son everyday from kindergarten, it's tough to work in a commute like that.

Good rifle range near Austin, TX

Man. That really sucks. A buddy of mine has a land lease, but it's pretty far away. I don't remember the name of the town it's near but he tells me it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from here (north Austin/Pflugerville area). He uses it to hunt, mostly with his bow. But he loves his...

Good rifle range near Austin, TX

Thread Spin-off: Wide Open Space? I'm looking to buy a rifle, also -- probably a Ruger 10/22. I tried one out at Red's Indoor Range (rented one) and I like the rifle, but I'm not so sure I like range shooting like that. When I was in my teens, my father used to take me out in the...
