    1851 secrets

I had three Ubertis in a row have mainspring weak enough to produce failures to fire. I replaced them with Colt factory SAA mainsprings. They had to be trimmed a bit in length to fit, but now when the hammer falls, those guns go OFF!

+1 on the .380 Lee mold. I am on my second...I wore out the first. It's the only round ball I use with my Navy revolvers.

    Optimal 1851 Navy Throat Measurements?

That sounds like a grand plan...right up to the point you try to measure a bore diameter with an odd number (seven in this case) of lands and grooves. Measuring across the center of the slug (covering one land and one groove), I get .3712". Suggestions?

    Optimal 1851 Navy Throat Measurements?

Gents, I have two 1851 Navy revolvers. One is a recent-production Uberti, and the other is a Second Generation Colt. While the fit and finish on the Colt are superior to the Uberti (and should be), the Uberti is considerably more accurate. That being said, the cylinder throats on the Colt...

    First Day with Dragoon

While you CAN drill and tap the arbor to lengthen it with a screw, you can also lengthen the arbor by building it up with JP Weld, and trimming it back util the correct length is reached.

    Heavy-duty Colt-type mainspring?

Missfires with both factory and Treso nipples...but not all of the time. if it was all of the time, it would be much easire to diagnose.

    Heavy-duty Colt-type mainspring?

In the past two months, I have had two Uberti revolvers (an 1860 and 1851 Navy) both develop miss-fire issues due to weak mainsprings. A weak mainspring may make for a light, smooth action, but it does nothing for reliability when the cap needs a good WHACK! There are reduced power spring kits...

    Bev-L-Block bead base

Gents, I am in need of an old Hi Bev-L-Block front bead base. I cut back an old Auto-5, and it is patterning WAY high with the Colonial Arms base and standard bead. I need the higher base to lower the pattern. Brownells and Midway used to carry them, but they aren't available anymore. In...
