So what's the general consensus on the FN Five-seveN?

Has anyone here seen the episode of Larry Vicker's show where he had the FN Herstal representative on? The entire 30-minutes was devoted to the 5.7x28mm round. Showed the FiveSeven pistol, P90, and talked about their advantages and disadvantages. The actual representative from FNH made it...

melonite finish after 14 months/10k rounds...

I'm pretty sure that's the same stuff my XD45 is treated with. Definitely tough stuff. I jogged nearly a mile with the slide rubbing on a button on my jeans before I noticed it....left a nice copper-colored mark. When I got home it came off easily with a silicon cloth.

Not trying to be a wise guy....but

I remember thinking the same thing, so I spent a few hours reading through a bunch of the reviews. The only negative thing I remember seeing, was a bash on some higher-end 1911 manufacturers because they wouldn't send him guns for testing. I know these guys gotta "scratch some backs", but...

Have you ever given up on a gun friend?

You can't hold other people to your standards. If it is that important to you, tell him. If he doesn't change, stop hanging around him and find a new friend that is more in-line with your lifestyle and personal set of standards.

Think I will order a DW CBOB tomorrow...

Mine's pretty new, has stainless bushing, black hammer, yellow/green trijicons, finer frontstrap checkering and slightly undercut trigger guard. I believe these are the current production.

My self defence ammo test 9 mm and 380

"As numerous people correctly told me at the time, water (or anything else for that matter) does not exactly replicate living tissue and bone so such tests are of minimal (maybe no) value." The same could be said for perfectly calibrated ballistic gel, couldn't it? I mean, what kind of human...

    Streamlight TLR-2

^Yes, mine has held zero fine. I just am turned off that the added laser makes it not technically waterproof.

    Heavier 9mm semiautos

CZ75B SP-01 The light rail adds some decent heft to the muzzle end. Personally I find the gun more ergonomic/comfortable than the standard CZ75B. It is a very heavy, all steel high-cap(19+1) and is the most comfortable gun I have ever held. The weight makes shooting it very fun. The SP-01...

More Ammo For The Anti's (merged threads)

Even if it was a 1911 and the hammer did need to be cocked, I see that as user-error, not a design flaw.

why are some cartridge cases not brass-colored?

^When you recover the expanded slug there is usually a little gold dot right in the center.

Split Cases of Remington Golden Bullet!

I've had this happen quite a few times with Remington Golden Bullets out of my P22. They usually get so stuck I need a wooden dowel down the barrel to push them out.

Just got a FN Harstel five-seven

I just bought one used of my budy. It is the older IOM model with rounded trigger guard. I personally didn't buy it for self-defense and would not use it that way if given a choice. Heck I probably wouldn't have been interested in the gun/caliber if I didn't already have handguns in other...

CZ RAMI vs XD Sub Comp 9mm?

To me it depends what kind of trigger you want. The Rami can be is SA/DA with ability to carry cocked and locked. The XD has the same trigger pull for each shot, and no manual safety. Both are great guns. I haven't shot an XD9 sub, but I do have an XD45 Service and don't have any complaints...

    Streamlight TLR-2

I have the TLR-2 and am extremely happy with it all-around. Built well, very bright and good battery life. Also excellent lifetime customer support. My only gripe is the TLR-2 is not waterproof, but the TLR-1 is.

    Recommendations for a range bag

I also have a couple of the Midway range bags. They were on sale for $30 so I got 2. I don't think you can do better for the money. Actually pretty well made.

SAO .45. What are my options?

I know it's probably a long shot but maybe an XD45 w/manual safety and a nice trigger job would fit the bill?

    Winchester Ranger Police Only

^The bullets themselves for sure. The Ranger-T's look very nasty with the petals/talons, the SXT failed to expand most the time, and when it did I got a lot of weight loss and the expansion wasn't anything to write home about. I have tested it and would never buy it again. The actual Rangers are...

    Winchester Ranger Police Only

Actually the cilvilian SXT sold in the black boxes is not the same as the LEO-only Ranger's. I bought a couple hunder dollars worth before I tested them and realized the are entirely different.

    Confusion about background checks...

I don't like giving out any personal info that is not mandatory, but I do list my social security number on all my firearms purchases. I figure if "they" really want to come get them, they have enough info already w/o my SSN. I may be a sheep but I kinda see listing the SSN as a way of avoiding...

How do you test handgun ammo penetration/expansion?

I take 2 five-gallon buckets lined up, cut the front and backs out of them to give me a "shooting lane", line the insides with a trash bag, and fill with water. Cheap, simple, portable, and effective. Also creates zero trash.
