It could simply be that the holidays brought out the worst in them. Selfishness, violence, and commercialism. Three very ugly things which the media has been force feeding us for decades.

Lets ban holiday holiday advertising. Especially radio advertising :D

The other man pulled a gun and pointed it at the first man but forgot to cock it, Scott Barrick said.

The 1911 proves its worth again!

As for the main story, I agree these people had a prior history with each other of some kind. If they hadn't had guns, they would have pulled knives. If they didnt have knives, they'd beat each other with blunt instruments.

Blaming the 1911 for not being cocked makes as much sense as blaming the gun for causing the crime. (I doubt a criminal was using a SA only auto, more likely it was an observer who had no idea what he was watching misunderstanding what was going on.)

A gun whose design makes it prone to operator error is as to blame as the operator.
Anyway, I agree that the reality of what actually happened has yet to be known.

The second man probably had a semiauto without a round in the pipe. HE drew, pulled the trigger and .... click...nada. So he racks the slide. The witness, not being a gun person like most of us uses the incorrect description when being interviewed, telling the reporter that he "cocked' the gun. The second man, after racking the slide, then begins firing.
Darn, guys. Use some common sense and think this through before getting on here and ranting about 1911s and their design.

Almost nobody gets a CCW in California, except Dianne Feinstein and other officials.

These two were carrying illegally, a NOT uncommon thing in many communities especially SF, Oakland, an the greater Los angeles area.

The old ladies got in a tussle, everybody shrieking at each other, one of the woman's man pulls a gun so the other woman's man pulls his. They shoot. Two useless thugs down and out. 4 million to go.

The anti-gunners always say how if everyone had guns in that situation it would be like the OK Corral. I posted comments on the discussion thread to the effect of , if gunfire breaks out I am not standing around looking for a challenge or standoff - I'm gone like the wind. I don't know why these gun grabbers think we are all up for an armed confrontation? Just because you are armed doesn't mean you are gunning for someone or that you are bulletproof.

"I think the obvious question everyone has is who takes loaded weapons into a Toys "R" Us?" he said.

Obviously they're looking to shoot kids or something... since it's a toy store... :scrutiny: Also, the journalist who wrote this sentence apparently doesn't understand how to, you know, write... in English.

People like me would carry a loaded weapon in to Toys "R" Us because I might have to protect my family from people like this. Yes, "protect", as opposed to "assert my manhood", which is apparently what occured here.
