    Ruger Service-Six issue

Sometimes this happens with very weak loads and blanks. Upon ignition primer backs out of its pocket (this is normal) but there isn't enough recoil force to reseat it and it locks the cylinder. Check to see if primers are high after the rounds were fired. If you have same problem with full...

More evidence that people who CCW are better than most.

Here is a better pierce of statistics. In Florida, a state with over 1M CPL's issued, one is more likely to be attacked by an alligator than a CPL holder. Mike

N.Y. High Court Judge Takes Colleagues to Task Over Constitutional Issue in Gun Case‏

Not an expert, but I don't understand Judge Smith's dissent. There is of course a "substantial" 2A question here but it relates to BOR not NY constitution. Unfortunately for those who live there, NY has no 2A-like provision. But that's not something state court can change. What would be the...

    Pick a .38spcl snubnose

It sounds from your description that your wife is not an experienced shooter. Light snubs are considered among more difficult guns to shoot especially for a novice. Did she shoot any of the guns on your list? If she did not, you should take her to a range and let her try. I am thinking she'd...

S&W 640 Pro Series .357 cut for full moon clips?

Also depends on the shooter. :) A few weeks ago I had a pleasure of shooting local USPSA match with a member of S&W team; he is a grand master. He shoots 627 revolver with 8-round moonclips in Limited-10 where everyone else shoots semi's and regularly wins matches. The loads were RN bullets in...

    Pressure in loading manuals

Not to steer a controversy, but why is it important to translate CUP's into PSI's? Suppose we were to find out that some 19,300 CUP load is also 21,600 SAAMI PSI load and 22,700 CIP PSI load. How would we use this information? Mike

    Loading .38 special

Bingo, rc! :) Phil published this in 1937; the load development work he was talking about was the development of original 357 magnum load. Here is the prize -- full quote from Phil's book. BTW, I think there is also an answer to OP's question here. Mike

    Loading .38 special

I guess we are just trying to impress you, streakr. Obviously we are not there yet, but we'll just keep trying. ;) Why did I shoot these rounds in 442? It is S&W 442 not Ruger. The answer is simple -- at the time we did not know how much over they were. We had a number of discussions on S&W...

    Loading .38 special

No, no they were just a little north. As we used to say elsewhere "a starting 38 special load of SR4756 with 158 gr. JHP from Speer #8". In a head to head comparison with Remington R357M2's (in a 357 mag snubby) these "starting loads" were slightly faster... Closed course, professional...

    Loading .38 special

Hi Jim, If we are thinking about same "another guy", I think loads that stretched the frame of his 442 were clocked north of 1100 fps. Proves that 442 was not designed for a steady diet of magnum loads. ;) Heard that S&W fixed the gun and the guy still carries it. :) Mike

    K Frame holster

Damian, Sad state of affairs is that the only place that meets ALL your requirements is ebay. Look for old Bucheimer IWB holster model 14c-12, IMHO they are perfect for short barrel K frames. Fist will make you one but it often takes more than 4 weeks, depends on how busy they are at...

    Wolf .357 ammo

I shot this ammo and it's not nearly as hot as Wolf claims. Wolf 158 gr. copper SJHP 357mag (mfr. #135006) clocked 1219 fps in 4" GP100; for comparison similar Rem R357M2 clocked 1263 fps (same gun, same day). Problem was that I got very high ES with Wolf - 128 fps; Rem ES was 24. Mike

My friend is selling a S&w 686. Help please!

I already have 3" 686 but for $450 would be happy to help out. PM me your friend's email and I'll take it from there.

C'mon, man. What's all this fancy-shmancy ammo? Here are some real bullits for your self defence needs.

what ammo for my chiefs special

Annoying style aside, what exactly did we learn from this outburst of the superior knowledge? That Rem FBI load won't always expand when fired from a snub? Or that wadcutters are a good choice? That's a news! :p Mike

    Help finding holster for GP100

I have one of these holsters for GP100 from Bagmaster: It's cheap, simple and a bit rough. Has 2-3/4" belt loop. Mike

    .38 +P+ Question

Jim, I think Buffalo Bore sells a round like that. It's a non +P version of their famous 38spl load -- link. The load is advertized at 850 fps but in Brass Fetcher testing, the velocity from 642 was closer to 900 fps - link. It's in 38spl rather than 357mag cases but I think should be fine in...

    .38 +P+ Question

Oyeboten, There is conflicting data (not to mention conflicting opinions) about pressure level of this load. A member of S&W forum Leon Riverrat had a load with 7.5 gr. SR4756 under 158 gr. lead bullet tested by H.P. White lab. It came back at 36,690 CUP (link). I don't know which one is...
