Found Item at Swan Creek Target Range - AL

Went to Swan Creek once. No one there. Pulled up and noticed an ammo box a few tables over. Went and got it and checked inside. Someone was using it as a range bag. Targets folded up, tools, ammo, and a GLOCK! Rummiging around and found a phone number. Started dialing as a car came speeding in...

    Opinions.... AR platform 308 guns

Personally when I was looking for a semi auto 308, I was really wanting an M1A, but saw a DPMS LR-308. I wasn't an AR fan until after I got it. It is sweet and a tack driver. Been extremely reliable too. Had it for about a year and a half and still shoots as sweet as day one.

M1 carbine or Hi-Point carbine : Which one?

If I had a choice between the two (and I did) I'd go with a Hi-Point Carbine. Main reason is accessability to ammo. Even without the crazies of the past year 30 Carbine ammo was real hard to find and much more expensive than 9mm. Personally I'd like a 45 now that they have those. The other...

    Windham SRC

Personally I love my Windham. It is a tack driver out at 100 yards and it is more accruate than the iron sights at 200 yards (post covered more of the target than the grouping). The twist rate works well with the 47-55 grain bullets I use. Haven't used anything heavier yet. And the best part, it...

What AR rifle in .308 ...

Love my DPMS LR308 Classic. It's a tackdriver. Helped a buddy pick one up and he went with the MP-10, they didn't have any DPMSs at the time. Both are good. The only issue I know of with the MP is that more parts are proprietary to SW than the DPMS.

Best New Factory AR For Under $800?

I went with a Windham Weapons AR-15 for $799 at my LGS. Love the gun. Accurate and well built. Plus I love the story of the company.

Walmart labeling their ammo as only be for sale by Walmart

Depending on their intent and the way the stickers are labeled, it could be possible to track it to a specific store and they could come down on management. That's probably wishful thinking, but I think it is a good start. Think about it from this prospective, Ammo flippers go in to just get...

Anyone had a safe in a basement during a fire?

Putting it in the basement vs "upstairs" would depend on the house construction. Our house only had a basement under an addition. The main house only had a crawlspace. Safe fell down to the earth about 3'. If the house had a full basement it's a darned if you do, darned if you don't scenario.

Anyone had a safe in a basement during a fire?

Haven't had a gun safe go thru a fire, but my Mom had a firesafe when her house burned down (to the ground) and she had a partial basement. Two things I learned from that fire, 1. If you have a safe, put it near an outside wall and know about where it is from the outside. I was able to pick...

AR in 308 suggestions for under $1,500

Buddy picked up an MP-10 recently. Nice rifle (I talked him into it). He got it for about $1200 a few months ago, so I'd think you could beat that price now. Personally I went with a DPMS 308 in Oct. Love it, that gun is a tack driver. Cool thing is, both guns run pmags (if you can find 308...

    .22 LR in north Alabama

Didn't realize Larry's was limiting 22. Just haven't seen it much. Was able to pick some up back in the March timeframe without buying a 22. Did see them with some PPU .223 with no limits the other day.

    windham weaponry buffer tube size

Everything I've seen says commercial, and the nut isn't staked. From many of the reviews I've seen, those are the two negatives some people have mentioned. Personally, just put one on layaway. Waiting for a buddy to get back from a work trip to pay me for my Mini-14 so I can pick it up.

Alabama - How are they for gun rights?

Well even after the new bill passed, not technically shall issue, I like the way the sponsor of the bill put it after the conference committee compromise.... we are "shmay" issue. Basically we now have a way to address it if we are denied. That said, Madison county pretty much gives you the...

    Workable AR15 from LEGO bricks

Saw an article a while back of a kid in the UK who does realistic weapons with legos. He did one not sure if it was an AR or similar EBR, but it did shoot lego bricks ;)

Ammo shortage over, mostly, for me at least

Was in one of our Walmarts recently and they had tula 223 on the shelf for 5.27, picked up a couple since my Mini loves it. Was in one of the others a couple of days later and they had about 25 boxes of Winchester 556 on the shelf, $12 per box. never seen the Winchester before so not sure what...

    Memorial Day. Never forget.

Many folks look at this as a weekend to grill out and enjoy the sun. My family spends the day each year we are in town visiting the Veterans Memorial Museum here in town. Our families can trace service members to all major conflicts from the Revolutionary War to Iraq. Having family live through...

    One last time Alabamaians.....

Ahhhh it makes sense now, Section 9 repeals the existing preemption, then Section 7 reinstates preemption with additional language to strengthen the preemption. Gotta love how convoluted the process is. Why can't they just spell it out in plain english? Makes me feel much better after just...

    One last time Alabamaians.....

I think someone who can diagram what sections apply where will need to figure it out. I deal with gov't specifications, but haven't had time to completely study this, and as big as it is with all the strikethroughs in it, it is hard to keep track of what is subordinant to what. On the...

    One last time Alabamaians.....

RIsom, Checked your link, Section 9 is still there just as I quoted it. It did move from end of page 37 to top of page 38 though. That one item is a deal breaker if you ask me.

    One last time Alabamaians.....

OK, I've been behind this, but finally found a copy of the conference committee version and read it. I may have missed it in the first version, or I may be misreading it, but on page 37 it looks like we lose premptation. Cities are free to override any state firearms law. Section 9. Section...
