You are right that loud noises do ellicit fear. However I think that seed of anti gun has to be planted for an otherwise rational person to hate guns even more because of the loud noise.
(also, fearof height and falling has been discovered to be usually a learned fear)

I'd research the metal guide rod option. At 2500 rounds my plastic guide rod in my semi compact is going strong. The flexibility of it seems to be important.
Have em and love them. If nothing else they are an mazing training aid. They really let you know what you're doing wrong with your trigger squeeze.

I'd say keep both rifles in the safe. Your handgun and shotgun should be fine for home defense. If you are engaging rifle range targets you probably have the time to pull one out of the safe..
Why everyone gets so upset about these pictures? Because all three of those varieties of guns are for sale around the country. It is not hard to put them on the surplus market and make some cash. It's utterly wasteful.
