Just like it says in the title. I'm wondering when the panic buying will end and the prices will return to normal. 7.62x39 is up at least $20 will this last or will it come back down soon?

Gun buying will probably slow but I'm not convinced ammo prices are ever going back down.

I've said here for years now that ammo scarcity and price is where the shooting sports will become endangered, not gun bans.

BO is going to HAVE to address this if he wants to make good on "reaching across the isle". Like it or not, he's probably going to have to implement a policy change if he wants to keep people from viewing him as a gun grabber. Look folks, the past week and the next couple weeks see Americans running like hell to buy guns. The dash is so great, the AP notices it and it's picked up by the New York Times. That's pretty big news if the NYT picks it up. Good Morning America features a story about it.

To implement an AWB would be futile at this point, because X million Americans just ran out and bought the "soon to be banned" weapons. Confiscation is too expensive, so is registration, ergo, checkmate President Obama. Americans are showing through sheer volume of sales that we support 2A. That cannot be ignored by the media OR the president elect.

Currently, it looks like a large portion of the American population is so scared, that they're buying guns to defend themselves against the president. If BO goes ahead with an AWB, it confirms everyone's fears. He'll look bad in the eyes of millions of Americans. I don't think he'll shed his anti-gun ways, but I bet he'll go after something other than AWs, probably the "gun-show loophole" or something like that.

Actually, unless BO seriously curtails ammunition imports, ammo prices may come down. It isn't just the U.S. economy that is in trouble; metals like copper and lead have been falling worldwide.

All the Obama hype is little more than "red state syndrome".
The economic mess which he didn't have anything to do with will surely endanger the pursuit of the shooting sports for wouldbees, newbees and many others who have enjoyed firearms for generations.
Not much outrage with those responsible for the mismanagement which created the econ meltdown.
I understand that with 6% of the population, one guy will always get a pass.:D
But nonetheless this econ meltdown is the responsibility of the existing crew and the President Elect is just that, as a result of it and many other breakdowns and screw ups!
The Econ is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.:fire:

When will the buying frenzy end?

The day Obama and his minions find it desireable or expeditious to shut it off!

Folks, Obama is/was a Chicgo Ward Politician. We'd be way off topic if I explained what that means, lets just say a level of corruption and power lust that most normal people can't imagine.

Anything he said in the past is not binding on him, anything he says in the future is not binding on him.

The buying frenzy may very well end on January 23, 2009 via executive order. Might be a bit longer if he goes with the 500% tax he's tried to get passed in IL..

It will end after pillaging their savings to get 4 or 5 guns people realize that the mortgage or rent is due and the families stomachs is saying it is time to buy groceries again.

Heh, the Pres-elect had nothing directly to do with the mess because he was not in the Senate long enough. This mess, though, is far longer in building than the GWB years. It is also far more complicated and intricate than merely competing economic theories and anyone who believes that Obama (or McCain) will be able to wield enough power to sway or alter the situation must also believe that the winds can be changed by holding out your hands. King Canute of England proved this by stepping out and commanding the tide to not come in. Rather than obeying him, the tide merely wetted him. The king knew this and was making a point. A wise fellow for more than a 1,000 years ago.

HEY! I was just surfing through here, minding my our business and all of a sudden I get drug into the conversation. I'm Pro-Gun and I didn't even run for office. (lol)

I thought this was a gunboard...not a college campus assigning blame for economic problems. Anyone who thinks the "Obama hype" is just "red state syndrome" is living in denial. A Leftist President on record wanting to outlaw concealed carry, advocating "assault weapons" bans, etc. and believing that the Constitution is a deeply flawed document....a Leftist Vice President proudly taking credit as one of the prime authors of AWB I....a new pitbull Chief of Staff known as the "Pointman" on gun control when he served under Clinton.....a Leftist Congress led by Pelosi and Reid....all financed by Leftist gun-hating donors and special interest groups all looking for return on their investment. You are absolutely crazy if you think onerous gun control measures are not in the offing. It won't come all at once but it will come. I'll be looking forward to the excuses and rationalizations by all the gun-owners who supported and voted for BHO. Hey but at least you'll have your government check...er, tax cut... of $500 or so a year.

The panic buying hasn't even started in earnest. You ain't seen nuthin' yet.....

Stand by, its gonna be an interesting ride.

Now here's a question for you. Let's say BHO pulls us out of Iraq. All of a sudden, there is no more war. Will we see 5.56 ammo be more plentiful on the surplus market?

I doubt they'll fall back that far. Remember when Clinton got in? Panic buying. Prices went up. Shortages of primers. When the dust cleared and things settled back down, the prices of a lot of stuff stayed up. And they didn't have the increase on metals to blame it on. Once they figure out we'll buy at the increased price, things won't come back down that much. But then again, we were coming out of a recession, not in one with no end in sight for awhile.

i think that ammo prices will come back down to earth.

1) the panic buying for AMMO will subside

2) copper prices (an important component of brass) have dropped sharply - remember that recessions are almost always deflationary (it remains to be seen what China's $600 B stimulus package will do to copper prices).

3) fuel prices are down sharply (factors into manufacturing and shipping costs).

4) the average american is tapped out financially. i don't know if the average american translates to the average gun owner but ... at some point spending's gonna slow, unless one borrows.

I am honestly getting really sick of you bad-mouthing and blaming the President while giving no proof to your claims. Why don't you actually prove that GW caused the economy to recess for a change? No, you would rather have a president who wants to take your hard earned money (thats if you even have a job) and give it to someone who doesn't work as hard or even works at all. Yeah, thats good economic policy.
