CT shooting, my letter to AZ Senators

Not far fetched at all, at a minimum they should have a taser on them. This day in age that would be the best tactic to take. An armed security guard or Police Officer would have just been one more casualty in this terrible event. Or that person might have been in another wing of the building...

    30-06 replacement

The .243 is a good deer rifle, but if you want something a little bigger why not just get another .30-06. If you don't like the Winchesters, then I recommend go with a Remington, Ruger, Howa, or Weatherby; just depends on how much you want to spend.

71 years ago today the world changed

Johnny Dollar: Thanks for posting the link for that article: very moving. On my mom's side of the family my grandfather was recalled back into the Navy shortly after Pearl and then my uncle joined the army a couple years later (served in the European theatre). My dad finished high school a...

    whats so good about mosins?

They are a fun gun to shoot, what other reason does one need to own one (or three as I did). I got rid of mine since I was more accurate with my other old gun (an Enfield No1MK3), but I did have a blast shooting them.

    antique gift to felon?

Because you can still buy 7X57 Mauser ammo that is "readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade" (as the law puts it) then the possession of the ammo is clearly prohibited. So this would also mean that he couldn't fire the rifle as he would be in possession of prohibited...

    Where do you shoot?

I shoot outdoors on several different parts of the National Forest where I work. There are great big hills to serve as backstops; and the only rules are pack out what you bring in. And if you take out more than what you brought in then you're helping us keep these places open for use.

    My first Mosin Nagant.

Congrats on the new to you rifle! The 91/30 recoil is also like a 12g slug, but imho I'd say a 3 inch magnum. After the first 5 rounds I ended up with a nice bruise on my shoulder; so I went and bought a shoulder pad. Something similiar to this...

    .32acp wound channel

It sounds like the 71 grain FMJ is the perfect round to be using for that purpose.

Military Question regarding state of residency

So loophole might not have been the correct term; but military members, college students, and snowbirds need to be aware of what is allowed as per the ATF. ATF Rule 2010-6 http://www.atf.gov/regulations-rulings/rulings/atf-rulings/atf-ruling-2010-6.pdf This breaks down what does or does...

Where do you live? And why?

Born and raised in MT (about 90 miles northwest of Yellowstone NP), and grew up on the family farm and ranch there. We lived 15 miles outside of a town of 1200 people, had 2 miles of river front, and 3000 acres to run around on. At 17 I joined the Marines because I wanted adventure and to see...

    7.63 ammo ?

Wolf and jonnyc: Thanks for the great lesson on ammo spence: I'm going to blame my next pistol purchase on you, since you resparked my interest in old east European firearms.

    7.63 ammo ?

Thanks for the info, learned something new today :) I'm debating between a Tokarev, CZ-82, or the 83 for my next pistol, it all comes down to ammo availability, and interchangability (that whole 38/357 concept).

    Cartouchs

Ditto's on this. Also I'd contact the CMP and see if you can get any more info. If you give them the serial number they can at least tell you if it went through them at some point in its life.

Ok, it's a little silly, but..... Zombie holster!

I like the two tone idea. Also good timing with halloween right around the corner and the new Resident Evil movie that just came out.

    7.63 ammo ?

WardenWolf: So then this would be the C96 you mentioned. I see how the rounds look the same, and the design of the pistol would require the use of a stripper clip for easy loading. So if someone had a Tokarev, and the 7.63 ammo happened to be available (and cheap), would you recommend...

    Ruger Mk 2 value?

I bought my MKIII 5.5 stainless bull barrel six years ago for around $300; so I'd see if they would take $225 for the MKII.

    7.63 ammo ?

This is the 7.62 x 25 (7.62 Tokarev). Don't know how anyone would think it is a Mauser round.
