All I want for Christmas is...a Marlin 39A

I've had the bug for some time now but am close to pulling the trigger (no pun intended) on what looks to be a fun and reliable shooter. I already have a Henry varmint express .17 HMR but I'm thinking I'd rather have the full range of .22 caliber rounds at my disposal over the .17 HMR...

    Best AR Optic under $500?

I'm looking for something around this price but could move a little if necessary. This AR will be used for punching paper and knocking down feral hogs, often in poor to no light. I'll add a surefire light at some point but for now I'm focused on optics (no pun intended.)

    What .22 was this?

My college had a ROTC program with a nationally recognized rifle team. As a result, back in 1979, they offered marksmanship as an elective. Each student was "issued" a .22 rifle for use on the indoor range. A couple of days a week, we headed to class, picked out our "issued" rifle from the...

Range Report: 30-06 and .17HMR with Pics

Awoke this morning to a beautiful day and thought I'd spend just a portion of it at the range. My rifles of choice today: Savage 110 30-06 wearing a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 and my little Henry .17HMR with iron sights. Up first, the Savage. I took this rifle to the range a week or so ago to dial...

    N. Texas rifle range over 100 yards?

Just wondering if anyone knows of a range in N. Texas where I can dial in a rifle at distances over 100 yards? Alpine, where I usually shoot, only goes out to 100 yards so I'm looking for a public range that will let me stretch out a little bit.

    Finally dialed in...Thanks!

Some of you may recall that I had some difficulty dialing in my Savage 110 30-06 using the Simmons scope that came packaged with it. Well, my in-laws bought me a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 for Christmas, God bless 'em, and I was finally able to make it to the range today to sight it in at 100 yards...

    Academy Has PMAGs...

in stock for $39.99!!! Yikes. Somehow I managed to fight the urge to pick up a couple even though I suspect I'll never see my order for PMAGs from Del-Ton delivered.

Stock Upgrade for Savage 110 LH?

I'm not really unhappy with my 110, it's a perfectly good gun. Still, I would entertain the thought of adding a nicer stock. My problem? I can't find anything in left hand. Heck, I'm nutty enough that I might even consider having new furniture custom made.

Advice-- Nikon ProStaff won't fit Savage 110

I got a new Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 for Christmas and a Lead Sled as well. Got out my 110, took off the cheap Simmons scope only to find that the tube on the Nikon is too short for the base/rings I have. I went to Cabela's looking for a solution but they were pretty well picked over so it looks...

Best LH IWB Holster For Kahr K9

The title says it all. I need a new holster and have looked at what's available through Kahr but thought I'd ask here before plunking down my cash. What's your opinion???

    Deadly Force: Hollowpoint or FMJ?

To my way of thinking the obvious answer for SD would certainly have to be hollowpoint, however, I believe either round would be effective if well placed. My question-- based on comments I've seen here and on a court case I saw on television-- is which round would be the better choice from a...

    Rifle Rest?

Can anyone recommend a good rifle rest? Looks like Cabela's has several and they aren't too far from here. But are there others I should be looking at? I don't need a competition model but I'd rather not buy something that won't hold up and end up being replaced.

    Can't Get On Paper... Suggestions?

I don't think I've ever had a more frustrating day at the range. I took a brand new Savage 110, 30-06, out today and out of 20 rounds, at 100 yards, managed to put one round on paper-- and I'm pretty sure that was a fluke. :banghead: This gun was sold in a package at BPS with a cheap Simmons...

    Scent Blockers and Deer Hunting?

I'm not a deer hunter, at least not at this point in time, but as my son grows into it I've been accumulating firearms and gear and trying to learn as much as possible so that when the time comes, I'll be somewhat prepared or at least have a good idea of what's going on. With that in mind I was...

Excellent Article: "The Future of Hunting" in SI

Got my copy of Sports Illustrated today and found this story: http://tinyurl.com/6l2shy It's a pretty good, albeit lengthy piece, too long to post in it's entirety here. So I'll post up the first bit and hope you take the time to read the rest. Moderators, if this is too long please remove the...

Show off your left handed Stags!

I ordered my first AR over the weekend from Shadow River Productions and can't wait to receive it. In the mean time, I'm hoping some you you might entertain me by posting up a few pictures of your left handed Stags and offering your comments on the performance of the weapons. I think it's going...

    Best AR Reference Sites?

I finally jumped in a bought my first AR. I know very little about these rifles but I have 3-5 weeks to get myself up to speed. I'm looking for the best information on building, maintaining and proper usage that I can put my hands on and hoping you guys can help point me in the right direction.

    I Stink At Skeet... HELP!

Ok, I'll admit, I haven't shot skeet in years and years. In fact I probably wasn't shaving last time I shot a round. Back then, I think I was intimidated by the "Old Guys" that ruled the roost so I'd slink off and shoot trap instead. Well, time flies. Next thing you know it's today and I'm an...

    Browning Lightning Superposed 20ga.?

I found one of these guns in a pawn shop today and not knowing much about them, thought I might turn to those of you more knowledgeable. It's in good shape as near as I can tell with the furniture being very good but there is some wear to the bluing. This is a Belgium made gun that the dealer...
