I have a Colt 1911 series 80 in .38 Super (100 years of service, if it matters). I would like to shoot .45 acp on the same frame. Can I just buy a slide, recoil spring, magazine, and barrel and install it? does it matter if the slide is a Series 70?

While contemplating my next rifle purchase, I am wondering if it is OK to shoot .17 Mach 2 in a .17 HMR barrel? I am planning to get a bolt action, so cycling/ejecting should not be a problem. Are those two cartridges the same head size? Any thoughts?
