    grip safety problems

I purchased an Ed Brown beavertail safety from midwayusa, model 868-1, their ad said for series 70 or 80, but when I installed it in a 9mm series 70 Colt commander the "nose"?, is too short to prevent the trigger bow from moving. There is enough movement that the pistol will fire without...

    Quickload queston

Thanks for the responses, 918v; I guess I haven't really used it much for pistol loads since I have those worked up. Its good to know. Peter; sounds like good advice.

    Quickload queston

This weekend I loaded some 10mm with hornady 180g hp-xtp bullets and Accurate #9, according to Hornady 7th edition, should be able to go up to 14.4 gr. OAL 1.260. After I loaded them I checked Quickload, (I know I should have checked first). Quickload shows this as a 125.8% fill and a max...

    Buying vs building 1911

I did it, or to be honest, I did it from a Fusion kit (frame and slide fitted). Was it worth it? Depends on what you want, If you want to learn a lot, enjoy doing the work and take pride in building a 1911, sure. If you want a quality gun for the least amount of money, buy a custom or a good...

    Mangled case mouth

Wanted to thank everyone for your response. As far as I can tell the extractor is adjusted correctly. First thought was to replace it, but I think I will have a smith look at it, probably save money in the long run. Thanks again.

    Mangled case mouth

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but thought I would try it here first. I recently purchased a Dan Wesson 1911 in 10mm. After about 100 rounds I have not had any feeding problems but have had 7 cases that look like these, (lost 8 so may have had more). It occurs with...

How do you use your chronograph

Thanks again everyone. I have learned alot from this thread, not only about how to use the data but a couple of things I hadn't thought about when using the chronograph itself.

How do you use your chronograph

I’d like to thank everyone for your response. I know what the calculated statistics mean, but in my limited experience, oddly (perhaps it’s the +/- 1% accuracy) the smallest SD/ES does not always correlate to the smallest group, and I can’t see choosing a load that shoots 1/2” groups over one...

How do you use your chronograph

How do you use your chronograph data. I’m not interested in setup and function, but what value do you get from the measurements and how do you use them to work up loads. I realize that with an average velocity you can calculated bullet drop at various ranges, but what else? How accurate are...

Thanks, these give me some basics, now all I need to do is repeat the action a few hundred/thousand times.

    mag change help

Will be competitng in my third IPSC match this Saturday. I am not fast at any part of the competition but my mag changes are terrible, Have been practicing and they're better. Could someone explain in detail the best way, especially the orientation of the mag, i.e. bullet forward or back, or...

    Thumb and grip safety problem

Another thing I did not mention is that this is an ambi-safety. This is what I did while fitting the thumb safety, condensed version. Covered back of shield with blue sharpie, inserted thumb safety (TS) into frame only and check fit. Stoned and polished any high/rough spots. Safety moved...

    Thumb and grip safety problem

I am attempting to build a Fusion kit and I am having a problem with the safeties. The Thumb safety functions properly but is very stiff in both the on and off positions. I think it just needs a little more taken off to loosen the “on” position but what is making it so stiff in the “off”...

COL or mag problem? 1911 45 acp

I haven't been able to get 200 g LSWC to feed reliably so I loaded some 200g RNFP's. couldn't find COL for bullet so used COL for JHP, 1.155. With every mag the second from the last cartridge fails to feed. Six Wilson 47d's and two Chip McCormick Power mags. First time thru two of the...

    any quiet 204 ruger loads?

My suggestion would be to buy a set of electronic ear muffs. I bought a inexpensive set, you can hear fine while wearing them but they still suppress the gun shot. I know I didn't help with your question but this might be easier than working up a different load.

I appreciate your response. I had heard that using the latex paint would do the same thing but will go ahead and use wax. Thanks again

    280 vs 270 question

I was recently offered a good deal on a .280 so I bought it. Comparing it to my .270 they appear very similar ballistically. But reloading data consistently shows lower maximum pressure for the 280. On Hodgdons web site the powder/loads for a 140 grain bullet show pressures in the range of...

    wood for carving stock.

Not sure where I should post this or if anybody can help. A couple of years ago a storm up-rooted a large black walnut on my property, I left it lay until it wasn't fit to carve/use in any way and it's bothered me ever since. A couple of weeks ago the same thing happened. I want to save the...
