Posted gun ban in public library

Thank you for the responses. I am going to contact the TSRA this week. I want to approach the library staff about this gun issue but am leery of carrying during the conversation, don't want to freak any virgin ears out talking about guns even if I am fully within my rights... Along with my...

Posted gun ban in public library

The public library in Cedar Park Texas has this "Behavior Policy" posted inside the front entrance. I never saw it until I happened to be waiting around and glanced at the pin up board which is not exactly obvious unless you are looking for it off on a side wall. Sorry for the blurry pics...

Someone "reaches" for your gun at the range

With all respect that is due, I sincerely apologize if anyone took my earlier statement in this thread as an insult: "I don't know about the idea that I am unfriendly and paranoid. Boy you Bozos are really out to get me. :) " -Carbonator My intent was to lighten up this thread with a...

Most effective personal defense gun/caliber at lower decibel level

This is interesting: From the Maximum SAAMI Pressures list: 9mm.............................35,000 .357 Magnum.................35,000 From Stealth01's Decibel list: 9mm.............................159.8 dB .357 Magnum.................164.3 dB Does a 9mm have a much faster burning...

Most effective personal defense gun/caliber at lower decibel level

"I was standing just inside the doorway - even with a large opening in front of me, the muzzle blast was loud enough to make me to loose 100% hearing for several moments, and experience partial hearing loss for over an hour after that." -Maple_City_Woodsman Good example of how sound can...

Someone "reaches" for your gun at the range

I don't know about the idea that I am unfriendly and paranoid. Boy you Bozos are really out to get me. :) I show my guns to other people, on my terms, and I always like bringing up guns in conversations. I'll let just about anyone handle my guns, again on my terms so that I can be sure it...

Someone "reaches" for your gun at the range

While shooting at ranges over the years I have had people approach my personal space while I was focused on my shooting or reloading etc... One time a range officer approached my side and started asking me what kind of gun I was shooting and even if he could shoot it etc... while I was in the...

Does the .38SPL still make the grade?

"Specials are for wimps. MAGNUMS are for men." The word "Special" doesn't exactly convey macho manly power, maybe it did a hundred years ago. Words can change quite a bit over time. The word "gay" had a completely different common usage and meaning a hundred years ago (not that there's...

Just how hot does a handgun get?

BCRider thanks - yes I am not sure how silicone would hold up with wear as you say I'll have to check on my oil forum (no kiddin lol).

    Wadcutters for Protection?

gordonagain - is that Atlanta Arms product a complete ready to fire round or just the bullet?

    Wadcutters for Protection?

Wish those SafeStops were still being made. Full flat copper jacketed wadcutters are exactly what I want for my .44 Special. Or perhaps better yet without the split top. I can't shoot lead and I don't want to keep exposed lead reloads in my pocket so Buffalo Bore's lead wadcutter is a no go...

Just how hot does a handgun get?

Thanks for the replies. I asked because I often use unconventional lubes for things, like the pure silicone spray I bought which has a temp rating of -40 to 285 degrees. I have seen other silicone sprays rated to 400 degrees. I might try it out on my guns because it is very clean and odorless.

Just how hot does a handgun get?

Some lubes and metal coatings are rated for up to certain temperatures, so I am wondering just how hot a semi-auto or revolver gets during normal use, on the slide and barrel especially... 200 degrees? 300? 400? Maybe even during a fast range session or drill. I'm not talking ammo dumping...

    .40 cal for concealed carry:

Wilsdon Combat made a gas operated Glock-like pistol a few years ago, called the ADP, in 9mm. Not sure if it came in .40 or what even happened to the ADP line... sorry don't know the specifics.

    Can ported barrels be plugged?

Is it possible to convert a ported gun to non-ported by plugging up the holes with something? How would one go about doing this? Has this been done before?

Picked up a new one today, W/ unexpected problem...

When you are 100 years old looking back on life, will you have rather shot the gun, or left it unfired for someone else to shoot? ""Life's odyssey is not to arrive at the grave safely, in a well preserved body but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,shouting,"...holy...

    Preventing rust on trigger?

Thanks. I'm going to pick up some of that wax stuff and see if it works. Long term I want to have the trigger treated by one of those slide refinishers. By the way I was thinking a quick an easy temporary job would be nail polish. Clear of course. Or... maybe... black? Fire engine red...

    Preventing rust on trigger?

Besides oiling, what can I put on my S&W 296 revolver trigger to keep it from rusting? The rest of the gun is rustproof (scanium/titanium) but that darn trigger is steel so it will start to rust when I carry it here in hot Texas. I have been putting a coat of oil on the trigger occasionally...

New Glock slide starting to rust...

Definitely a manufacturing defect. There's no reason to accept that from a Glock, especially a new Glock. I have seen a few of these new rusty Glocks on the forums. Look at how the rust accumulates in the corners of the serrations as if the sprayer at the factory was running out of liquid...
