    Rate the XD

My new XD45 Compact is the one for me. I have owned Glock, Taurus, and Sig, but the "Two Guns in One" in 45 ACP does it all for me. Accurate, reliable, 45 Caliber, and with 13 or 10 round mag options. I had the Service model, but traded for the first Compact I handled. Yep, this is the keeper.

    4" XD 45 Question

I traded my 4" Service for a 4" Compact as soon as I held one. I took it to the range last night and it ran flawlessly. I can cc it with the 10 rounder or it is a great belt holster gun with the 13 rounder and X-Tension. This one may be the "ultimate" semi for me. YMMV.

Medic Guns - For years I have heard that you don't count the first 100-200 rounds on any semi. Use FMJ and it will polish the ramp and operation will smooth things in the innards. After that, shoot what you plan to carry until you get 200 rounds without any kind of failure. (That eliminates...

    First Handgun... so confused...

You are 2/3 of the way home. You have decided to buy a handgun. If you get your CHL and begin to carry, ANY gun you carry is better than no gun. Now for the remaining 1/3. I have owned and traded a large number of handguns over the years. Each has its own charm and allure, and each is the...

    Kel Tec, The Next Generation

Wifey has a 1G p32 that has always been great. We have had it about 2 years or so, 200 or so rounds (all kinds of ammo) down range from both 10 rounder and standard mags. No problems. I got a 2G 3AT and had no problems. 50 or so rounds down range with standard mag. I traded with my son...

    New member with a question

Verrrrryyy common...for a reason. They are good shooters generally and I like the way they handle. If it still shoots good and you like the caliber, you have a nice bedside or carry gun. You can shoot it without detracting from its value, and it will probably give years of superb service...

    Taurus 605: Range Report

Congrats on the 605. Is it ported? They are a real bargain for the money and most have a pretty good trigger after a little dry fire, but yours must be good from the box. I have more than one of the Tauri 5-shooters and I enjoy them all. I also like the grips, and I will check out their...

    .38 special vs. .357 magnum

MC - I would be very interested in seeing the numbers if you do the shootin'. Please post for all to see.

    Taurus 905B

I have a 45 ACP Tracker and I find the Stellar clips live up to their name, "STELLAR". They are fast for reloading and I have had no problems with them. 9mm may be different or YMMV. If I had a 9mm semi, I would really want a 905. I figure it is probably about the same quality as my 651...

    The 642 club

Thank you for opening the doors to those of us who do not own an actual 642. I have a S&W M36 I inherited from my mama, a Taurus Titanium 651 with a CT LaserGrip, a Taurus 605 SS 3", and a Taurus Titanium 617 in Bright Blue. I have hit all around the 642, but never hit right on...

When do you feel most vulnerable?

My worst moments come when visiting my mother-in-law in the hospital, sometimes during the evening hours. Hospitals and nursing homes can elect to post in Texas making it illegal to ccw there. I have spent more time without my usual handgun(s) while visiting her than at any other time since I...

    "Carry Everyday" Gun.

Duane Thomas wrote an article that really impressed me years ago. He talked about your basic battery of handguns. It went something like this: 1) Your everyday combat ccw. 2) Another much like #1 that stays in the safe until you are involved in an incident and someone confiscates #1...

Revolver as a CCW, a question...

I had my wife qualify with a revolver the first time she took the class to get her permit in Texas. Before her license expired she retook the course with a semiauto to change her license so she could carry either. We had located a semiauto she liked and wanted to carry instead of her revolver...

Thoughts on the .357 S&W Mountain gun.

They do not have the fit and finish of the S&W's but Taurus has been doing some really right things the last few years. They have a 5-shot L-frame 41 Mag with 2" or 4" barrel. They have a 5-shot L-frame 44 Mag (probably better with Keith-level Specials or Silvertips) with a 2.5" or 4" barrel...

Went to get an XD45 compact but got something else instead

A friend had a problematic G36. I suggested he "stiffen" his wrist while shooting the semiauto since he was used to revolvers and heaver semi's. It solved the problem but he still got rid of the G36. He said he did not want to have to remember to "stiffen" the wrist for that particular gun...

Went to get an XD45 compact but got something else instead

I traded my Service XD-45 for a Compact. I just bought a little early. I plan to CCW with the 10 rounder and carry the 13-rounder as reload (as D McGee said) after I have a chance to put a couple of hundred rounds through it. The range was closed Thursday night due to this storm throughout...

    38 spl Winter Load?

I carry the "FBI Load" from Cor-Bon year-round in town in my snub 38's and 357's. I like the additional penetration (not excessive in a 38 snub) over other 38's, and I prefer the control and fast recovery over other 357's. This is not a new load by any stretch, but I find it to be a good...

    Help with multi-caliber guns

I remember shooting 38 Long Colt in a 38 Special years ago. An old Speer reloading manual I have says not to shorten 38 Special brass to load 38 S&W, it will rupture due to being undersize, which makes me think the 38 S&W would be oversize for a 38 Special. You can shoot 44 Russian in a...

    Springfield XD .45acp

yhtomit, that is a real shame. It would make a natural backup for the service model or primary carry when the service model is a little too much for the occaision or the dress. Perhaps if enough of us email them....
