Well....I was all excited to see what the XD45 compact looked like. I got to my local shop today and to be honest I was not really excited once I held it in my hand. :( I guess I was hoping they were going to make it smaller than the Tactical model, but the only difference was the shortened grip, which really is not shorter if you use the extended magazine that comes with it? I would have expected SA to shorten the barrel, but they did not do that either. I was hoping that the shortened barrel would cut down on the weight as well. Maybe down the road they will do it, but in the meantime I felt like I really needed another .45 semi-auto to add to my collection so I picked up a new G36. I had one for awhile and absolutely loved it, but I sold it for more than what I paid for it. This time I think I will keep this one.:D

you choose a glock over an xd?:cuss: :banghead: :barf: :scrutiny:
just kiding man, congrats on the new glock, and sorry that the xd didn't meet your expectations. take care!

Yeah, well I had to get something because I could not leave the shop empty handed.
I love my Tactical XD45 though!!

Went to get an XD 45

I though that I had to have the new XD 45, I was disappointed with the long draggy trigger pull and a slightly longer trigger reset. Tryed it, but I went back to my standbys, the 1911 and the Glock. Just my opionion, others may vary, we have lots of good choices. :)

It is nice to have choices isn't it? I am so glad I live in NH! I just ordered the Split Decision from High Noon Holsters to go with my G36. They make nice holsters that aren't too expensive.

I had a G36 for a short period of time and sold it to my brother when he got on the job too. I will have another 45 soon, just waiting for glock to make a G19 sized 8 shot in 45 acp!

but the only difference was the shortened grip, which really is not shorter if you use the extended magazine that comes with it? I would have expected SA to shorten the barrel, but they did not do that either.

Well, the grip's the part that's hard to conceal; the barrel length doesn't matter as much. It should come with a flush-with-the-short-grip magazine, too -- the idea is to carry it with the short mag so the grip doesn't print, and have the magazine with the grip extension for high-cap reloads (although if ten rounds doesn't stop the threat, another 14 probably won't be much help) and range use.

There is an XD 45 compact?

(just checked SA site, THERE IS!!)

The 10 round mag would be fine with me, as long as the grip still fits my hand. Hoping the reduced grip is about the size of the standard 9mm.

Now why don't they offer them in stainless? That's what I'm waiting on...

I was hoping for tan/black myself. The grip is definitely shortened and I would have to say with the non-extended mag the grip is about the same size as the XD9's.

I traded my Service XD-45 for a Compact. I just bought a little early. I plan to CCW with the 10 rounder and carry the 13-rounder as reload (as D McGee said) after I have a chance to put a couple of hundred rounds through it. The range was closed Thursday night due to this storm throughout the midwest.

I like the extra concealability of the short grip with the option of the hi-cap mags. I just wish I could locate some of the X-Tensions (I have spare 13 round mags) and another 10 round mag. It is perfect for me. YMMV.

I still hope SA comes out with a shorter barrel model (sub-Compact) like so many of us were expecting, but I am very happy for with the Compact for the moment.

I had a G36 once and really enjoyed it. It went in a trade quite some time back, but I found it to be a reliable, concealable 45 and I would not hesitate to get another under the right conditions. Enjoy!

Well, I went to the range today with my XD45 and the G36. I shot Independence 200gr. RN, Federal 200gr. JSWC, and my own 200gr. JSWC. I was really really disappointed with the G36. The XD45 had no FTF's or FTE's, but the Glock jammed almost every other round. I would have to say that 60% of my FTF's and FTE's with the Glock were the JSWC's. I would not have expected so many problems with factory loads. It was quite a miserable experience with the G36, so I may be going to the compact XD45 after all.

Uh Oh, maybe cancel that High Noon order afterall... ;)

I've been leary of the 36 based on it definitely being the most-often-mentioned problematic Glock on GlockTalk.

I don't think a Glock should need a break in period.

Did you lube it beforehand?

Maybe ship it to Glock, I understand they have excellent CS - although it'll cost you $50 or so to overnight the pistol.

Hope you get it sorted out.

A friend had a problematic G36. I suggested he "stiffen" his wrist while shooting the semiauto since he was used to revolvers and heaver semi's. It solved the problem but he still got rid of the G36. He said he did not want to have to remember to "stiffen" the wrist for that particular gun.

I hope you get it all straightened out. Shootin' is too much fun to spend your time fooling with something that does not work for you.

I took it apart prior to firing and made sure that it was lubed good. As far as the high noon holster my friend will buy it from me because he has a G36 and he lovers his. However, his is problematic as well but he does not seem to care. I want my handguns to go BOOM when I squeeze the trigger though. I will probably trade the G36 for a different .45. Any suggestions? Please don't recommend a SIG because I don't do DA/SA!:cuss: :cuss:

If you're cool with DAO, how about the Kahr P45? 6+1 .45ACP, 20.5 oz empty. The one I handled seemed well built - did not shoot it however.

Tree, I like my P45 once the trigger reset issues were fixed. You might look a H&K USP or (gag...cough...gag) G30 ;) or wait for the M&P 45. I've read S&W will feature it at 2007 SHOT show.

If you're not down with DA/SA, you can get a SIG DAK (Double Action Kellerman; it's their improved DAO) or convert any DA/SA SIG to DAO (and some can be converted to DAK).

I thought about the SIG DAK too. I will have to check the DAK trigger out. I have heard mixed things about it.

I went and looked at the XD 45, decided it wasn't all that in terms of grip and looked too much like a lego, tried the Taurus PT745, which felt REALLY nice ergonomically, and bought that instead. 100% reliable from the first shot.

I would never trust a Kahr for CCW, given the...issues so many people report.

Unfortunately, I have had 2 bad experiences with Taurus, so I won't be going there. I have a feeling I might be looking at a 1911 style semi-auto. I had a ParaOrdnance once and loved it, but for some reason I have forgotten why I don't have it anymore!:(

Your problems with the ftf have to do with the swc bullets. The G36 and The G30 do not like swc profile. Has to do with the angle of the feed ramp. this has been known for years by owners of the G30 and g36.
