    SCAR for NRA matches?

keep in mind the term "service rifle" has nothing to do with current combat rifles. It is simply a way of defining a rifle based on a current military platform in order to keep all contestants on the same playing field. In other words the current AR15 A2 that nearly every competitor has is...

    who is going to Perry?

Thanks Jon. Sadly I made so many mistakes in the shootoff that it hurt me bad. Screwed the pooch at 600 in NTI too or I would have had a shot at the Nathan Hale and Alice Bull Trophy again. I feel the matches ran better this year than any year I had been too previously. Things are looking...

    who is going to Perry?

Jon I have been good, you? The shop has been crazy busy over the last couple years but things are finally getting back to normal. I have not shot much either the last couple years but am finding more time finally to get serious again.

    who is going to Perry?

I am gonna be out there for the P100, NTI and the Hearst. Might shoot the 6 man for Pa if they need me but I have no burning desire for it. john

    Simply incredible shooting

Kent Reeve is a GREAT shooter and smallbore prone is not his main interest. In fact it is simply a way to stay sharp for his true interest and that is Palma fired prone with iron sights at 800-900-1000 yards with .308. He is really, really good.

    Camelback in Hi power?

If you are not pissing all day long you are not getting enough water. I thought I was smart enough to know that by now, but it cost me in a big way last year. The day of NTI I simply was not taking in enough water. I was focused so much on the match that I did not see I was in trouble until I...

    Competition with scoped bolt rifle?

If you can hold anywhere near 1 MOA in offhand and shoot sub MOA in prone all the time at distance, then will win EVERY single match you go to in this country including Camp Perry.

is there any competitions going on long island new york

you need to go to this web site and check under match schedules http://www.nyhighpower.com/ This all assumes that you want to participate in an organized NRA Highpower rifle event. I know they shoot at a couple different places on Long Island throughout the year. The matches for the most...

    which would YOU get

Learning to shoot Highpower with an M1A is a good thing. You get a healthy leason in positions with the .30 cal and it is unforgiving. I have always felt I was at an advantage when I switched from the M14 to the AR for XTC shooting. The down side is that the M1A is lots of money and they are...

How does one measure group size?

In highpower it is not always clear either. To score a higher value in NRA highpower the shot must be tangent to the line of the next higher scoring ring. I have seen so many shots so close that even with a plug it is hard to make an accurate measurement. The nice thing about highpower VS...

    Army shooting team

The USAMU is pretty well stocked with good stuff for their shooters to use. I know some of them use Nightforce scopes and I would imagine that there are some Leupolds there too. I am not 100% sure though.

one more camp perry thread... directions

I was always told that Young range is no longer in use because of "fan of fire" issues. Primarily when shooters are down range on Viale they are within the safety fan of Young. It is too bad as we would have shorter days during service rifle week if we could still use the Young range.

one more camp perry thread... directions

There are only 4 KD ranges at Perry. And of those 4 there are only two that are really active for National Match course shooting. The larger of the two is Viale Range. It has 160 +/- targets and then there is the Rodriquez range it has maybe 70-80 firing positions. The two ranges are...

    how much ammo for perry?

Monday is squadded pracitice and you can shoot one string off hand and one string rapid sit. If you do not have zeros for Perry the squadded practice is a good idea. It starts moday at about noon'ish. That in Camp Perry terms means about 2pm. If you are going to stay all week you might be...

    Camp Perry '05

I will be there for Service Rifle Week this year. NRA week is better if you want to shoot more rounds during your stay, but that week has been getting smaller and smaller turnouts and last year was less than 600 shooters I think. Service rifle week on the other hand has been growing and it is...

    Remembering how to shoot

competitve shooting, Service rifle in particular, is a pershiable skill. It requires constant work to keep the edge on. Even then it is not always so easy. I tend to go thru little slumps from time to time that can drive me crazy. The fact is though that 95% is all mental, and the rest is...

    >Berger bullets<

Jon, I am flattered by the compliments, but I am not at the top. I am close, but I am not at the same level consistent enough like Shawn M, Lee Land, Bob Modica, Nick Till, etc... Those guys seem to always be ON. I still get hot and cold, but I am always trying.

Quote: Isn't that kinda throwing the baby out with the bath water? No VihtaVuori for you! (to the sound of the Soup Nazi voice) Not really. My method may not seem logical to all, but it has worked for me. I have accomplished every goal I have set out to make with my ammo made in this fashion.
