The Magnum J-Frame is as strong as the older larger frames. Actually, frames don't go unless the cylinder goes first, and the five-hole cylinder has the advantage of having the stop slots offset from the thinnest part of the chamber walls.
I don't know that it will take a heavy diet forever...
Once in awhile I carry this Forkin .44 with the 3 5/8" barrel on my right hip. It conceals nicely under a winter coat. But mostly I carry J-Frames or a Walther PPS.

Today I put my money down on a NoLock 442-1. The dealer said it was $20 less for them to buy than the 442-2 and they passed that savings and more on to me, as I buy pretty much everything at that one place.
The other thing I thought was pretty interesting was that the distributor they use...
Bone bruises and blood sometimes put me off of recoil. Now that the calluses are back, it's not a big thing though. Putting 50 rounds of 9.3x62 downrange left me black & blue from my forearm to my sternum. I probably should have worn a jacket or something.

I'd guess a Triple Lock as well. And I'd shoot it. It could lose value that way if not taken care of, but the value of shooting it would outweigh the value lost in my opinion. I'm not a collector either.

Got two of those 629s and love them. There are many on the used market that are tight and not terribly expensive. And despite what you might read, they are durable as long as you aren't loading beyond the maximums shown in loading manuals.
Be sure you want to go swapping handguns though. The...
When the Marine Corps replaced the 1911A1 with the Beretta (after I left), I was no fan of the 9mm. But the amount and severity of testing that goes into a decision like that is significant. I know of no other agency that goes to anything like the lengths of the U.S. military, even when...
My daughter is a far better judge of character than I am. She's living in Hollywood now, working in the movie industry, dating guys I like - guys I've seen in movies and TV.
Because it has always been her life, not mine, I simply provided parental services necessary to tide her over until...
Visited my sister, bro-in-law and their two kids in Minnesota a few months back. The kids hadn't really shot a handgun, ever. I had a couple along on the road trip, and the b-i-l had a 9mm.
We sorta worked from the low power stuff and eventually got to this .44 Magnum 629-1. The 15-yr-old...
Depends on the loads of course. There are all kinds of definitions of "stopping power." Either of these rounds are plenty good for most any purpose.
Personally, I prefer the .44 with 7.5 grains of Unique pushing a 250 grain Keith bullet about 900-950 fps for pure fun-to-shootedness. Out of a...
I don't have much experience with store-bought holsters, but do have a couple from El Paso Saddlery. I can recommend the "Street Combat" model as being very well made and concealable. I carry alloy J-Frames in mine, but think it would work well for a 1911, as it carries the piece pretty high...
Being in California as well, I don't carry daily since I left the Marine Corps decades ago. But when I travel and my CCWs work it is one of these (usually the 351PD), mostly in a pocket but sometimes under a jacket in that El Paso Saddlery Street Combat holster:
Where open carry is legal and...
Armolly and Metalife are good brand names of chrome finishes. And chrome will polish against itself nicely. It is slippery stuff. But the problem with chrome is that it is not ductile and if the parent metal gets dented, there will be continuous stresses on the plating which is unlikely to...
