Cerakote Gold; "C" vs. "H" for use on grip frame

I'm able to prep the metal correctly and apply the materials, and I know the difference in application. I'm wondering how hard the c (cold) cures as it's the better color match and I've not used it or can find any real-world comments on that. Thanks.

Cerakote Gold; "C" vs. "H" for use on grip frame

I'm debating which cerakote to use on a grip frame. I'm just doing the grip frame for an old model Ruger Blackhawk and want to replicate the brass finish to liven up the boring gun a little. I've acquired a 2nd aluminum frame for the purpose so I can preserve the original. Question is...

    Questions on evaluating stag grips

Great, that's what I was looking for - someone knowledgeable/accurate. The left panel was more consistent with pictures I saw of elk, the right indeterminate but not as (I think I'm using the work correctly) "barky" as some Sambar stag I had seen. I gather "stag" can mean and male deer species...

    Questions on evaluating stag grips

Today I picked up an older 45 with some stag grips - of some species. I'm not expert on the grips enough to much more than that a) these are real, b) quite attractive. The fit to the gun is excellent, but the grips are very asymmetric in order to get the best figuring from the pieces. You can...

Confusion Over Different Colt ARs and/or Best AR for About $1100

The 6920 is the definitive AR to get - IF you need to latch a grenade adapter on it. If not, it's kinda silly. If you don't need to do that (mortar your neighbors, and have the requisite license to do so), or don't have a BATF destructive device license or plan to get one, here's what to do...

AR Builds - Forget The Middy Hype - Build Rifle Length

The stock and guards are Cav Arms factory "Coyote." The mag is sprayed Brownell's Alumahyde "Desert Tan," which matches the cav "coyote" pretty well. The grip is Hogue FDE. Thanks for the compliment; that rifle is staying simple; it might get a small red-dot like a Vortex Sparc but that is it...

    1911 users who've tried a few Match barrels - what's the better/best of them?

That trumps brand. A few years back Gun Digest did a test and fired a big variety of barrels from a barrel fixture, so fitment out of the equation. They all grouped within a few .01" of each other. That said, I have a preference for Bar-Sto; my best shooting guns have them (one from Novak...

AR Builds - Forget The Middy Hype - Build Rifle Length

I agree. Combine mid length gas, lightweight/original style barrel, carbine length, throw in 5R rifling and meloniting and you have a great combination. I do hate collapsible stocks and I put A1 length stocks on all my guns; carbines or also 20" rifles. Either Cav Arms pieces or some...

    Favorite 9mm handgun

No question in my mind; I've tried a lot and these are what feel good: 1) Colt Combat Commader 2) S&W 3913/908 They aren't piggy large for the caliber in my opinion, and they shoot nicely, balance, and conceal well. The S&W doesn't have the finest trigger, but it's a great, simple...

    9mm Rock Island 1911 or plastic 5"

My dad had a RIA Tactical .45 and it was a very decent gun; it ran well and lacked a few things of higher dollar guns, but nothing "wrong" with it and that's what most everyone will say. My first personal 1911 was a Norinco 20+ years ago, so a good route to take in my opinion. I DO like...

    My Newest Toy a 629-1

I need to re-read his old books/collections again, it has been a few years. I bought another copy of "Good Guns..." for a friend for a Christmas present just last week. I'm sure they will. ;) I don't shoot magnums through it often with those grips on it. .44 Special is fine though.

    Thoughts on the 681?

S&W made very, very few 681's with a lock. 97% of them or more don't have it. I've owned several Rugers; liked them. But they are not forged steel S&Ws and won't ever be batting in those leagues. I have had a 681, and two 686s - one 2.5" and one 4". Of the three, only the 4" 686 is still...

    My Newest Toy a 629-1

Yeah, that is a 3" N from them (or 3.5", too). That is also a 629-1 in the pic, a "Lew Horton" from 1985-ish. Love that gun. I have 4", too, it is a 29-2 c. 1970, nickel. Love it, too. I have not seen that video of his, I've watched a few of his and he is a great gun guy. In fact, we are...

Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

Radagast, I'm not home and can't look it up myself, and it's not in the sticky from Xavier Breath. Chief's Special (j) .38, five screw s/n 39,38x Got it at a gun show today w/box and cleaning kit, I'm thrilled. Literally spent years looking for one of these affordably, box or not. I think...

    My Newest Toy a 629-1

I have no idea what is wrong with him relating his story... Bizarre. On a constructive note, I like Deaf Smith's choice in leather (and his former county sherrif ;) ). Highly recommend a El Paso Tanker; I have one for a 1911 and this one for my 629 and 27. Need one for a 4 and 5" N frame...

    Anyone have a 1911 style 9mm?

Don't forget the original 9mm 1911 gun - the Colt Commander. Doin' it in 9 since 1950. Lightweight, or all-steel (this one is steel). I really enjoy shooting this gun. Colt doesn't currently make a 9mm variant, but good used ones are not at all hard to find.

    1942-1945 Victory model s&w

The VAST majority of the .38 S&W guns that went overseas were 5", and the .38 Specials were pretty exclusively 4". That one being 4", you should be safe it's a a more desirable (and less common) US made special. The finish looks original - a proprietary S&W phosphating called "Black Magic."...

Would this be a fair trade?

I wouldn't fret. I would value a nickel 29 above a more pedestrian 625 or 629 mtn. gun anytime. I do have a 629 (3"), but my nickel 4" 29 is a much nicer gun, and the heavier profile barrel makes for friendlier shooting, though slightly less quick handling, vs that mtn. gun.

    M4gery Build

You say you are interested in light weight, but I get the feeling from your post you are missing the big picture: barrel profile. A1/A2/M4 Get a true lightweight barrel profile (PSA does them adequately in a lightened A2 variant from FN, ARP does them really well, calls them Scout), Colt...

    Looking for new CCW revolver

S&W 19 or 66 in 2.5" will come in under that price. Well built, concealable, powerful. Maybe the best cc gun ever made. "I rarely carry, but when I do, it's Dos Equis a S&W 2.5" 19."
