I looked at the supermatic schematics and they look quite a bit different, but that's not to say that the hammer spring is not the same. There is also no way to be sure unless I ordered it to see.

I need a hammer spring for one of our shotguns and from what I am seeing we can no longer get parts for it. So I'm trying to figure out if one of the other shotguns has a hammer spring the same size. So if you don't mind, next time you have your gun stripped down measure the diameter and length...

That was the first thing I did. Apparently this particular model is very rare. I can't find anything for it. Luckily I think I can get any springs that are needed a spring supply. Or a hammer spring from another gun might work.

Thanks, I'm glad it worked out as well. Like you, That Remington 870 was my first firearm that I had problems with. Everything else has worked flawlessly without a single jam, or hiccup.

Update: It's still not working correctly. It will fire most of the time but there is still the occasional light strike. The hammer spring still feels weak compared to my nova, so I'm assuming someone just left the gun cocked for a long period of time and weakened the spring. Can we still get...

Well I put 75 rounds through the Nova today and it performed flawlessly. I really like it. I can see this sport getting very expensive quickly! It is a lot of fun. Almost more fun than shooting my handguns.

Thanks. I will probably try a full choke for now since I am slow. If I am understanding things correctly, the modified choke is better for people that are quick and can shoot the clays while they are close. Hopefully I can graduate a modified chokes sometime.

Thanks for the link to the manuals. I took it apart earlier today and it was very dirty inside. Anyway I cleaned everything and everything seems to be working much better. The hammer felt weak and gritty so I cleaned all the junk out of the spring it and it is a lot smoother and swings harder...

Well I took the Remington 870 back today. The owner looked at it and tried to cycle a few rounds through it and sure enough it wasn't working so he apologized, and offered me a refund or trade for another shotgun. Since I had been eying the Nova I traded for it. I cycled a bunch of rounds...

I agree. Looks like the shell latches and and everything is pretty warn. They had a Benelli nova for sale, that looked to be in real good shape. I would probably have to put another $100 with this one to get it though. Thoughts?

Okay I found the problem, I think. Its the for-end tube assembly. Now I have to decide if I want to take the gun back and have him give me something else or keep it and fix the part. Looks like the part is $36.00 plus shipping. I don't know if that makes it worth keeping. What do you all think?

Well I just got back from the range a few minutes ago and did some shooting with both the new shotguns. The Remington 870 would not pull ANY shells out of the magazine tube. The little piece of metal that keeps the shells in the magazine tube is not moving out of the way when the action is open...

Just got back from the skeet range and it cycled the shells fine. No double feeds or anything so I guess its okay. We did get quite a few light strikes from the firing pin though. It got progressively worse to the point where none of the rounds were going off. I'm guessing it just needs a good...
