Hummmm don't use a S&W with an internal lock as a SD defense gun, problem solved. Look at it it this way if the lock fails and you get harmed/killed you or you family can sue S&W. Sue everyone:rolleyes:
Look at www.powdervalleyinc.com for powder and primers. Order 48lbs to max out the 20 dollar hazmat fee. I usually order 16lbs of powder and 15k primers at a time. If you're loading cast www.missouribullet.com is a good place. For FMJ www.montanagoldbullet.com or www.precisiondelta.com are both...
Check www.tjconevera.com from time to time. I bought 1900 rnd case for just a bit under 200 bucks if i remember right. He;s been out of stock for a while, but you might wanna shoot him an e-amil.
I use 22.5grs of h355, over a 55gr fmj, very accurate load, nice recoil. If you're using 5.56 brass the pressures can spike just a bit, when I use LC my 22.5grs is perfect.
I would say reloading is the only option for loads that are comfortable in a 642. I've loaded some stuff with very comfortable recoil 250+ round sessions out of my 642 with no achey hand. Winchester white box is about a 100 round max for me.
Mixed brass doesn't seem to help OAL. If you sort headstamps and use all one brand for a batch can tighten up the OAL. I really don't care about .004 +/-, for the volume shooting I do.
I have an ATR in 30.06 and there are no issues at all. I don't think that a bolt all the way forward and locked in the down position would somehow fly back and crack him in the grill. IMHO 1. he's a left hand shooter and did not shoulder the weapon properly and the knob smacked him. 2. The bolt...
I'm a huge fan of 9mm for the two legged dog(human type). As far as any large 200+ LB predator, i'd want at least a .44mag. As for a 9mm against a griz, well I guess it's better that nothing.
