I plan to take down my Winchester 74 and refinish (strike: restore) it myself. I have read through many threads on this subject and it seems like something I can do myself. If the Bluing doesn't look perfect (streaks) I will live with it as it will look better than the rust spots on the barrel...
I inherited a 74 short that functions well when it shoots but only fires approximately 1 in 10 cartridges. The firing pin marks every cartridge but fails to fire consistantly. Does this sound like a worn down firing pin or a worn out firing spring?
Also, the only firing pin I can find...
I'm trying to find out more information on my grandfather's Browning Auto-5 Sweet Sixteen 16 Guage. I have researched a few sites including the serial number search on Brownings site but I couldn't figure it out. First, the serial number on the bottom of the receiver is as follows:
