What Deer Rifle... I'm Going Nutz Ova Here!!

If you want a pretty factory rifle, look for a Kimber 84m Classic Select in the caliber of your choice. Here's one in a .257 Roberts I recently picked up. Will shoot most loads under an 1" Here's my favorite woods rifle that I have, Remington Model 7 7mm-08 (20" barrel) in a brown stock. The...

    Ruger American or Remington 783

I picked up a 2nd hand American .308 for a friend of mine a couple of months ago. Scoped it up and just shot some extra ammo I had around. Have to say for the price I was pretty impressed (paid 225.00 for the rifle). 7 1/4 lbs scoped and just a nice solid rifle for the price.

anyone admit to making a terrible shot

I was out duck/goose hunting yesterday, made a bad shot but that's besides the point. In the same area, back in '95 opening morning of Deer Season. The night before I had pin-pointed a really nice buck and was back at first light. 200-225 yards with a 7mm Rem mag. I rushed the shot as it...

    Remington 700

The physical size is the obvious thing, don't have easy access to any of my rifles right now otherwise I would measure for you. But what caliber do you have, 99% of the time it's an easy enough to answer your first question just by that alone. 2nd question, yes it's easy to change from one to...

Tried to zero my rifle at 50 feet and this was the result

You'll quickly run out of scope adjustment at that close of a distance I prefer about an 1-1 1/2 inches high at a hundred yards, but site the rifle in for the distances you're expected to be shooting and get an idea of where it'll be at for a long shot. No sense in sighting in a gun for a...

Would you buy a rifle you didn't need if it was cheap?

I'll buy pretty much anything that I know I can at least clear a hundred bucks on if need be. If I have to think much on it, than probably not. PS: As stated that may be a good price on the Browning, but no huge deal by any means.

Another "is this a good deal" thread

The crown is the end of the barrel where the rifling exits, you want to make sure it's not dinged up and is nice and sharp essentially. It's not a huge deal to have a rifle re-crowned, but something to look for. Slight ring around the bolt face is normal, just where the case meets the bolt or...

    257 weatherby or 30-06

I'm in Eastern, SD and get over into Minnesota a lot. I can't say I search the shelves in great detail but I usually try to take stock in what any given place may have. Just don't see any of the WSM or WSSM's up here with any frequency, with the exception of the 300 WSM. Don't see tons of...

    257 weatherby or 30-06

A .270 WSM is a more common cartridge? Sure the heck isn't anywhere I've ever been. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've scene ammo for it on a dealers shelf. Can't say I've seen a ton more .257 roy ammo, but it's a heck of a lot more common than any WSM cartridge with the...

Another "is this a good deal" thread

Not great, but not bad. Presume somebody stuck it in a walnut stock. Probably started out life in a boat paddle stock (Ruger Skeleton). Scope doesn't really ad any value to the deal, if it's a Tasco made in Japan they really aren't bad scopes though. Figure 25-30.00 bucks for the box of...

    257 weatherby or 30-06

If your handle is an indicator of what you already have (.308) than get the .257. Fun cartridge, don't have a ton of experience with it but have had one a few years. With any good bullet any animal isn't going to care if it was shot with an '06, .257, .270, etc. And for the longer range...

    Do I need a 7mm?

Not saying the Savages won't shoot, but personally I just can't warm up to them. BUT... everyone needs a 7mm of some flavor, I have my 4th on it's way sometime soon. (Kimber Montana .280ai), already in the safe are two 7mm-08's and a 7mm Rem Mag Certainly don't need another one, but still...

    Help buying an Ithaca 37

I inherited a 20g similar to the one Dakota posted, LOVE that gun. Belonged to my grandmother many years ago. Shot my first up-land game bird with it and thankfully many years later it still has a home with me.

    17 Hornet

I don't know if Savage could have possible picked an uglier rifle to introduce the .17 Hornet Someone somewhere on a forum did a nice semi-custom build with a Ruger recently, but I agree about them needing to do some work with a factory chambering. I'm a Ruger Fan, but I quickly sold my...

new gun safe inside house or in the garage?

Something that hasn't been mentioned, if there's ever a fire and your safe is on the main/second floor more than likely it's going to take a trip and end up in the basement. Ideally any safe should be secured to a concrete slab and be on/near an outside wall to try and keep down any extra heat...

    Buying used rifles?

Have bought and sold a number of different guns and I'm not in a financial situation to take a bath on a bad deal either, so take into consideration how long a forum member has been around. Look at feed back if possible, etc. Would be very reluctant to buy from a new member that just posts in...

Have $800 for rifle. Going nuts.

Get a kick out of the people who say "What's a pound or two"? As it's been stated, the difference in carrying a 7 lb rifle all ready vs a 9-10 lb rifle through the woods up the mountain and back down is HUGE. Extra pound or two in a pack you might not feel, but those couple extra pounds on...
