    Best Metallic Cartridge Manual

If you lean toward a specific brand of bullet, I would get that brand manual. (Hornady, Speer, Sierra, Nosler). Because you will get loads for those specific bullets in different calibers and weights. I use Sierra, Hornady and Nosler bullets for different game and calibers (handguns and rifles)...

    642 Club Part Three

New 642 Just picked up my first S&W and a 642. I looked at the LCR as well, but after handling both, liked the 642 better. Better fit, and although the Ruger trigger was supposed to be better, I felt the 642 had better action. I bought it as a back up gun and it'll make a good night-stand...

    How to "de-scent" wool

Field and Stream ran a report recently where they used a man-tracking dog to find a "hunter" in a blind. The "hunter" bathed with no scent soap, no scent shampoo, wore charcoal scent killing clothes, and the dog still scented the hunter in 13 seconds after a quick down-wind loop. So I'm in...

    Mossberg 535 -Adj Trigger necessary?

I've decided I really won't need the adjustable trigger or the 3.5" over bore (835) model since I think a 3" shell can do the job. So that gets me to the 535 turkey/waterfowl combo. I can shoot turkeys, geese and even deer with sabot slugs. Thanks guys for your info and help.

    Mossberg 535 -Adj Trigger necessary?

Smitty, I agree that a 3" shotshell will do the job. But if you don't plan to shoot 3 1/2" any longer, would you still rather have the 835? It's about $50 more and a pound heavier. So maybe there would be no advantage to have it. Are there other things about the 835 that you'd rather have...

    Mossberg 535 -Adj Trigger necessary?

Hi, Contemplating a new Mossberg 12 ga. turkey gun (MO camo, 22" bbl, 3.5" chamber, fiber op adj sights [not pistol grip]) and was wondering if the models with the LPA adjustable trigger made a significant difference over a standard Mossberg trigger. Do Mossberg owners find there is a...

Help With ID of WWII Ammo

Guys, thanks for the information. The round I took the picture of was the best looking (condition) of them. Although the 30-06 is very popular, I don't shoot it. When I looked up the 30-06 dimensions in my reloading manual, the numbers seemed to be off enough that I thought it may be a...

Help With ID of WWII Ammo

Hi, A friend brought me a box of ammo that his father had from WWII, and asked if I could identify it. It's nothing I've seen before, but it's Denver, so I thought one of you folks could identify it. It has a PSP bullet of .308" dia., OAL of 3.040". The case is 2.305" long and tapers from...

    Rate of Twist for Yellowboy?

Hi, I just bought a Uberti Yellowboy in 45 Colt with 24" barrel. I'm hoping someone can tell me what the rate of twist is for this rifle (Uberti doesn't specify, but I sent them an email requesting it - still haven't heard back.) I've been loading 250 gr LRNFPs ahead of W231, but was...

45LC loads in 1866 Win. and Handgun

Thanks for the replies. Hot rodding won't be a problem. I paid enough for that gun that I'm not about to do it damage. I expect to pass it down......but not soon! :D

45LC loads in 1866 Win. and Handgun

rcmodel, Thanks for the info on the pressure. I went back to my reloading docs and I overstated my fps. I'm shooting a 250 gr. LRNFP (#452664) with 7 gr. of W231. My Lyman manual doesn't list the pressure for that load, but my guess for fps would be more like 850 rather than 950. From...

45LC loads in 1866 Win. and Handgun

Hi, There's a similar thread on .357/.38 loads, but this is a bit different. I load 45LC for my New Vaquero and keep them to a MV under 950 fps, and under 14,000 CUP. The bullet is cast LRNFP. My questions are, are the above loads safe for the 1866 Uberti Yellowboy rifle with the...

Uberti 1860 Henry or 1866 Yellowboy?

Lots of good information. Thanks to all. Seems like the 44-40 isn't too tough to tackle. I would be reloading smokeless only. I've looked at the ballistics and there's not too wide a variety to load though - but does give me an option I didn't think I had before. Since I load 45 LC below...

Uberti 1860 Henry or 1866 Yellowboy?

Hi, I am looking to buy either the 1860 or 1866 and would like to hear some pros and cons (beside price) on these two. I'm thinking of 45LC (I reload 45LC for low pressure) and I'm not too fussy about 24" or 20" bbl. They both have a great old west look, and I'm torn between them. I've...

    Only one handgun?

Having one handgun is sort of a pause, a time between quarters, a break in the action (so to speak :)), definitely temporary. The game will begin again shortly!

    LR vs. LRM primers

I would think there has to be some difference in performance. Whether that's temperature, distance or powder type.

    44mag or 460

If you want the ability to shoot a wide range of big game, the 460 may be the choice. But if the limit of what you will hunt with it are whitetails/hogs up to 100 yards, the 44 Mag will do it, has a wide variety of factory loads readily available, lots of variety for reloads, is somewhat...

    45LC and W231?

Good point. I noticed that the Lyman Reloading Manual doesn't show 231 used for any load on .44 Mag rifle data, nor on .357 Mag rifle data. (Seems like the load used in the 357 rifle was a bit wimpy [4.4 gr of 231] to begin with).
